Mr. Thompson served in the US Army and 26 years in the Alabama Army National Guard 123rd Quarter Master Company and was one of the first blacks to integrate this unit.

During this tenure he was called to Duty for Operation Desert Shield/ Storm and received numerous awards for his efforts: The Bronze Star Medal, The Army Achievement Metal, 2 Army Commendation Medals, and a Certificate of Appreciation for Honorable and Outstanding Service of Loyalty to the United States of America Army.

Mr. Simpson O’Neal Thompson was born April 19, 1932 to the late Mr. Posey O’Neal Thompson and Mrs. Beatrice Simmons Thompson in Clay County Alabama. He met and married Ethel Bishop and to this union five children were born.

Recessional

He was preceded in death by sister and brothers: Allen Thompson, Fannie Lou Tyler, and Mack Thompson. His memories will be cherished by his loving wife, Mrs. Ethel Bishop Thompson. Children: Marsha (Calvin) Murray, Sharon (Coleman) Dennis, Brenda Davis, Joyce (Arthur) Smith, Christopher Thompson, Dell Hearn and Dollie Dark. Brothers: Franklin (Thelma) Thompson and Wilbert Thompson. Sisters: Willie Lee (Archie) Turner, Mary (Austin) Graham, Connie (Carl) Buckner and Sadie (Fred) McKellar. 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A special thanks to his friend and caregiver, Angela Hawkins Simmons.

To our little brother Chris, we would like to thank you so very much. While taking care of dad you went above and beyond. From your sisters, we love you very much.
