“Love. Grow. Serve.”

June 2014

Are you, “Taking Off for the Summer?” Recently, I overheard someone mention they were taking off for the summer or “we” as a church were taking off for the summer. It sure can appear that way at times. Our winter guests have all gone up north for the summer which has become more and more noticeable on Sunday mornings! The church council is not meeting in June. So, it might feel like we are taking off for the summer…..but I hope not! Summer is great time to recharge and recreate. We have a number of capital improvement projects going on this summer and you will soon see and feel the impact of these improvements. We will be starting a new Bible study series in June. We are also trying to start two new Bible studies for Sunday mornings so that we will offer more than one Bible study each Sunday. Our Bread of Life ministry of giving out loaves of bread to our guests is very close to being in full operation. We will also be having the Grand Opening of our Bread of Life Food Pantry in June. Summer is not the time to “take off” but a time to evaluate and re-engage in those ministries that will be most beneficial for your spiritual growth and maturity. Look around Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and consider stepping up to a new level of participation as Consecrated Stewards actively involved in Kingdom service. Summer time is often the time when families move to a new community. This may be the year you make a new friend or welcome a new family to our fellowship at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. It is always the season for sharing, welcoming, growing, becoming, enriching, serving, and loving our neighbor at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Please don’t take the summer off but do enjoy your summer and grow this summer in your walk with Jesus. Pastor Craig

June 8th – Special Presentation Do you have answers for these five wishes? The Person I want to make care decisions for me when I can’t. The kind of medical treatment I want or don’t want. How comfortable I want to be. How I want people to treat me. What I want my loved ones to know. June 8th during our Adult Bible class time we have invited Liana Hotusing of VITAS, Innovative Hospice Care to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer for a presentation about these important end of life issues. Each participant will receive a “Five Wishes” booklet. Liana and Pastor Craig will lead us through this material. Plan now to attend this special presentation!

Phone Tree has come to Lutheran Church of the Redeemer As all of you must know by now, we have installed the Phone Tree ministry tool at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. We are in the process of tweaking it and getting the bugs out of it so that it will do the most good for us. When we use it again you should hear a clear greeting from Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. This will alert you to the important message that will immediately follow the greeting. We don’t plan to use the Phone Tree program often but it will be available for special announcements so that the entire congregation can be notified within a very short time. Please listen to the entire Phone Tree message when you receive the call and enjoy the application of this technology to stay connected and in communication with your brothers and sisters at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.

Endowment Fund

~$90,801.00

“BTU Bucks” We are starting a fund which we are calling “BTU Bucks” to replace the money which we have had to take from the “Endowment Fund” to cover the cost of the new A/C unit for the Educational Building. The unit has 60,000 BTU's, so the cost amounts to $17.50 per 100 BTU's. Since we face other expenses to replace the water pipes, upgrade the restrooms, put new doors on the Educational Building, and possibly create a new playground, it would be really wonderful if we could replace the money that we had to withdraw for the A/C unit. Please consider helping with this cause. $35 would pay for 200 btu's, $70 would cover 400, $105 would cover 600, $525 pays for 3000, etc. We all love our church facility, but as it ages, it needs to be rejuvenated. Just as a family may be asked to help with the care of aging parents, we need to ask our members to help us care for the church. Thank you for any help you can provide. Keep an eye on the “BTU Bucks” chart that is hanging in the narthex and watch our progress!! Thelma Moyer, for the Board of Stewardship

Temple Talk for June 2014 – Habitat for Humanity Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County, Inc. has selected June for a month long new tool drive. This tool drive is set to coincide with Father's Day. The Social Ministries Committee is therefore conducting a month long new tool drive coupled with our monthly Thank Offering with Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County being the recipient of both. Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County, Inc. is the local organization of the world wide Habitat for Humanity founded by multi-millionaire Millard Fuller and his wife in 1976. His theory of raising funds, have construction work done by volunteers and selling the houses to low-income families who would be unable to purchase a house in the normal manner proved successful and by 2000, was operating in 65 countries and had built 100,000 homes. Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County, Inc. formed in 2005, conducts several fund raisers yearly. In March, they sponsor the Annual Strawberry Festival, which in addition to unlimited strawberries has a car and motorcycle show, tables for artists and crafters to display their wares and a 5K race for runners. There is a Habitat for Humanity Restore on South Babcock which sells new and slightly used building materials with the proceeds going directly back to funds to purchase more materials. During the month of June, a Father's Day Tool Drive is conducted to replenish well used tools for the volunteers to use. Basically any tool, hand or power, large or small will be greatly appreciated and will be used to construct a local house for a low-income family.
