SKYLINE QUAD: Today, NJCU has the honor of hosting the first-ever Skyline Conference Quad Match. With the NCAA sponsoring a Division III men’s volleyball championship for the first time in 2012, the former schools of the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) split into smaller conferences; NJCU, along with New Jersey Athletic Conference all-sports members Kean University and Ramapo College, merged with College of Mount Saint Vincent, NYU-Poly, Purchase College, The Sage Colleges and Yeshiva University to form an eight-team Skyline Conference volleyball league. THE SERIES: Kean, a first-year program in 2011, swept both meetings from NJCU and leads the series, 2-0. Ramapo also swept last year’s season series and leads the all-time series between the longtime rivals, 43-11, winning the last 13 meetings. SKYLINE PRESEASON POLL: Ramapo was voted the preseason favorite in the 2012 Skyline preseason poll, receiving five first-place votes. Kean was second with three first-place votes. The Sage Colleges were picked third with 33 points, one ahead of NJCU with 32 point. Mount Saint Vincent was fifth, followed by NYU-Poly, Purchase and Yeshiva. The top four teams earn a berth in the Skyline Tournament with the champion earning the automatic bid into the first-ever NCAA Tournament. LAST MEETING vs. KEAN: On March 15, 2011 in Jersey City, Kean defeated NJCU, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 2523). On Senior Night 2011, senior libero Chris Edra became NJCU’s all-time leader in digs. Kenny Lisk had 10 kills, playing outside and middle hitter during the match. Steve Vahalla tallied a match-best 12 kills. LAST MEETING vs. RAMAPO: On February 12, 2011, Ramapo defeated NJCU, 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 2522) in Mahwah. Kenny Lisk had a career-high 21 kills and hit .381 in the loss. Joel Castro led RCNJ with 18 kills and a .607 percentage Paul Konopacki added 15 kills. LAST TIME OUT: On Wednesday, NJCU improved to 2-0, sweeping York College, 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 2515). Bez Arslani, Kenny Lisk and Patryk Rusznica combined for 32 of NJCU’s 35 kills and Justin Beaumont had 29 assists and a .468 set percentage.

BEZ ARSLANI
Freshman | Outside Hitter | Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley HS
#8
• Coach Rodgers on Arslani: “He is the hardest worker on the team and has tremendous leadership skills as a freshman. If everyone on the team isn’t pushing themselves in practice, he’ll let them know about it. All he wants to do is win and he knows that the entire team has to play well in order for us to do that; thus, he not only pushes himself, he pushes the whole team to get better. Bez is a solid hitter that has the fastest arm on the team and a block that can consistently scare some right side hitters on the opposite team.” • High School: The top player in Wayne Valley history with a school record of 814 kills in three seasons, Arslani was a two-time Second-Team All-State selection as a junior (2010) and senior (2011), a three-time First-Team All-Passaic County standout (2009-11), and the 2010 North Jersey Player of the Year by the Bergen Record...He led WV to its first-ever Passaic County tournament title in 2010…That season, the Indians went 27-2, were ranked #10 in the state and #3 in North Jersey, and won 20 consecutive matches before falling to Fair Lawn in the North Section 1 state final…He finished his junior season with 340 kills, 69 aces and 25 blocks…As a senior, he led the Indians to a 21-5 record, a No. 19 state ranking and a fifth-place ranking in the final North Jersey poll…WV captured its second straight county championship…He finished the year with 247 kills, 85 service points, 37 aces, and 30 blocks…Among the WV records he owns are the single-match record of 28 kills in the 2010 county semifinals...Three-year high school record was an incredible 66-14 • Academics: Major at NJCU is Health Sciences…Would like to pursue a professional volleyball career in Europe after college and eventually be a physical education teacher and coach.
