Course Choice Program Course Choice offers students opportunities to pursue high school and college coursework, Advanced Placement courses, and career training that prepare them for after high school. • Program created by legislation • Funds may only be spent on BESE approved Course Choice providers • LEA has discretion in deciding how to use the funds to best meet needs • Program created to fund instruction of students

Funding

• 15-16 approved at $26 per student in grades 7-12 in MFP with an additional $9 per 7-12 student in HB-1 • Payments made to LEA’s by state in a separate MFP line item at the rate of 1/12 per month • Current MFP as presented by BESE has been rejected by the legislature • 16-17 allocation amounts TBD • LEA reports Course Choice participation and LDOE monitors expenditures and reallocates funds not spent and/or allocated per program policy

Reporting System

• NEW reporting system vs. past registration system • LDOE system • No cost to provider or LEA • LEA does the reporting, provider verifies, LDOE cross checks with enrollments, grades, withdrawals, and payments • LEA’s register directly with providers • No student identifiable information in the system • LEA’s have until set date to accurately report all Course Choice registrations in the online system

Payments to Providers • Policy o K-12 courses get ½ tuition once students begin and ½ upon successful completion o Dual enrollment courses get full tuition once students begin • Making payments o LEA must pay K-12 providers directly once enrollment is verified/approved by LDOE o May sign a CEA with LOFSA to pay higher ed providers • Accurate system data/reporting o LDOE reporting system or LOSFA system must match actual enrollments, payments, documented withdrawals, and reported grades o Good communication with providers is imperative o Good communication within your own organization is imperative o Will be used for auditing purposes o Verifications will be sent to providers and LEA’s from the LDOE, once approved they will be considered accurate and documented for BESE/legislative auditing
