Samuel Barlow Primary School

13th January 2017 “Another lovely week in school. I hope the families that attended the Young Voices concert thoroughly enjoyed themselves – I certainly did. It was lovely to take the children, they were brilliantly behaved and did Samuel Barlow and me proud! It was amazing to take part and a wonderful experience for our children. To hear 5100 children singing in unison is truly fantastic! “ Melanie Brown

Football Team Samuel Barlow boys played an excellent game against Sherwood in the final of the Under 11’s Kinder Cup. Unfortunately the result did not go their way and they lost 2-0 to their very worthy opponents. We would like to say a big thank you to all the parents who came along to support their children and an especially big thank you to Mr Rowley, who provided all the boys with a fabulous sugary treat after the game which helped to compensate for the loss. We would also like to wish Sherwood good luck in the Regional Finals later in the year. All staff are extremely proud of the boys’ achievements.

Young Voices

Mrs Ward is having a Baby!

What an amazing day! The children, Miss Bennett and Mrs Long had worked so hard in preparing themselves for this day and that preparation really paid off. The staff and the children had a brilliant time. Taking part in an event like this is a unique experience – 5100 children singing together, well-known singers, beatboxers, break dancers (think Diversity) and lots of dancing. We fully intend on doing this again next year and hope to take even more children. All they need to do is join choir in the Summer term.

Hopefully you all received the letter sent out this week but, if not, I am pleased to inform you that Mrs Ward is expecting a baby in June. She is intending to stay and support the Year 2 children through their end of year statutory test. We have not confirmed staffing arrangements for when she is absent but as soon as I have you will be informed.

PTA

Under the Sea Day

Our current Parent Teachers association is fantastic and they are brilliant at raising funds for the school. However, they could really do with some more members. All you will be expected to do is attend a few meetings, share any ideas for fund raising and turn up for fairs. discos etc IF you can. Please contact a current member of the PTA or me if you are interested .

On Thursday 19th January we will be having a theme day of ‘The Sea’.

Book Shop The book shop is open every Friday after school. It only sells new books at a huge reduction so that they cost either £1 or £2. Please come and browse – all the profits are used to provide more books for the shop or books for the children in school.
