NH Catholic Charities' Good Shepherd Rehabilitation & Nursing Center Receives Silver National Quality Award in Health Care Jaffrey, N.H., July 3, 2013 – Good Shepherd Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, owned and managed by New Hampshire Catholic Charities, has been selected as a 2013 recipient of the Silver – Achievement in Quality award for its outstanding performance in the health care profession. This award is one of three distinct honors recognized through the National Quality Award program, presented by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). This competitive award program highlights facilities across the nation serving as models of excellence in providing long-term health care. “To earn an award at this level requires the unwavering commitment of each individual in a facility,” said Mark Parkinson, president and CEO of AHCA/NCAL. “Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and Nursing Center deserves the Silver Quality Award for its accomplishments, and I congratulate each and every person that helped in this constant journey of improving quality care.” Implemented by AHCA/NCAL in 1996, the National Quality Award Program is centered on the criteria of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. This program assists long-term and post-acute health care service providers achieve their performance goals. National Quality Awards are granted at the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. Facilities begin the quality improvement process at the Bronze level and must receive distinction at each level before proceeding to the next. As a recipient of the Silver – Achievement in Quality award, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation & Nursing Center has demonstrated systematic advancements in quality, plans for continual improvement, and sustainable organizational goals. Good Shepherd may now move forward in developing approaches and achieving performance levels that meet the criteria required for the Gold – Excellence in Quality award, which requires them to address the Baldrige Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence in its entirety. “I have been to many facilities throughout the years, and I know that it takes a lot of time and energy to apply and adhere to the rigorous standards of this quality award program,” says Ed McMahon, Chair, AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Board of Overseers. “Good Shepherd Rehabilitation & Nursing Center should be commended for its performance and dedication to providing high-quality care.” 1
This year, the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program saw success rates of applicants for the Silver award increase from 17 percent to 20 percent, with 59 facilities nationwide receiving the Silver-level award this year. This increase in award recipients indicates a strengthening commitment to excellence in skilled nursing and post-acute care centers across the country. The award will be presented to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation & Nursing Center during AHCA/NCAL’s 64th Annual Convention and Exposition, October 6-9, 2013, in Phoenix, AZ. Good Shepherd is one of six nursing and rehabilitation homes owned and managed by NH Catholic Charities.
