MDSL Minutes November 12, 2015 Call to order 7:38 pm Roll Call of Officers Present: Amy Watkins, Shawn Watkins, Chris Barrett, Krissa Pecunes, Brian Wentz, Kristi Viands, Amy Urffer, Jason Dunaja, Dean Fairbend, Vitto Pasko, Jen Kaiser Motion to approve August and October minutes: All in favor. Amy Watkins (President): Set up google email accounts to avoid hacking, also keeping records together for future board members. Current travel shorts are no longer in production. Will have to meet w/Xara and switch designs. Comparable price. US Soccer no longer allows heading for 10 and under, 11-13 for practice only (speculation). Will be finalized and in effect in August 2016. Shawn Watkins (Games Commissioner): The IM Committee and Laws Committee met via email to adopt a rule change and an IM Regulations modification in response to events this season. Both passed 3-0 (1 no vote) Added to the Laws, under Law 10 Method of Scoring For Grade 2 games and above, if a team takes the lead in a game by 5 goals, they must play with one fewer player than their opponent until they are no longer winning by 5 or more goals. This process will repeat for all additional goals scored by that team. The team will regain one player each time their opponent scores a goal until the two sides are back to within 4 goals of one another. IM Regulations Section V. Add J. To encourage player rotation through all positions in 2nd grade, no player will play the same position for consecutive quarters, more than 2 quarters of any game, or more than 3 quarters in consecutive games. This was enacted by the committee as a rule for this season, but needs to be approved by the Board for future seasons. Intramural season concluded with Championship games for the 3/4, 5-7 teams on Tuesday 11/3 8-12 Championship Ireland over USA 4-3 5-7 Championship Germany over Brazil 3-3 (3-1) 3-4 Championship England over USA 1-0 Thank you to Bill Hall and his team for getting Sweeney lined this season and keeping the IM fields looking great all year long.

Referee payment request has been submitted to Brian. Cheikh Ndaiye (Spring Coordinator -not present): Potential high school team for spring season. Discussion about opening it up to see if we have enough players, also discussion of having enough referees. Kristy will add to registration and we’ll see what happens. Possibly open registration December 1 for Spring for IM. Vitto Pasko (Travel Coordinator): Green Cards / Sweeney Keys due back from travel coaches by Nov. 19th Coaches meeting Nov. 19th in Shrewsbury Ele. Science lab at 7:30pm to discuss USA Youth Soccer changes York USA looking into offering a “high school division” York USA officer voting Jan. meeting USA soccer mandate - No heading for kids 10 and under – recommended not until 13 Brian Holloway Coaches Classic was a great event – MDSL owes $60 Coaches Education license class on Dec. 4th – 6th in Windsor – closest it has been in a while FC – trying to work with the clubs in terms of scheduling tournaments. Indoor training for travel Jan. through Feb. at Shrewsbury Elementary and Friendship elementary – schedule being worked on Indoor clinic for incoming U9 group? Chris Barrett (Travel Registrar): Add to assistant coach to U10 girls. Replacement card issued to one coach. Brian Wentz (Treasurer): Went over financials thru 11/11/15. Only includes $1000 for Crab Feast. Everything else left out for that event. Crab feast netting will decide if we do again in coming years. Should be around $2700 under original budget, mostly from uniform credit. Revenues higher mainly due to fundraising. Compared to last year, expenses $600 difference, but very close to budget. Travel budgets are good, but will need patches this year and fields will need to be lined twice as much, so paint will be an expense. For next year, looks like registration should be about same for IM, $30. Travel will be about $800 over what it ran last year. Travel fees should be the same--$115. Krissa Pecunes (Equipment Coordinator): Equipment return went great. Only need about 5 more.

Jason Dunaja (Fundraiser Coordinator): Saturday 11/13 Crab Feast, still needing volunteers for night of event. People have really gone above and beyond, decorations, donations, etc. Fall fundraiser went well. Raised over $11k. 220 tickets approximately sold. What will we do for fundraising in Spring? Something to think about, maybe not having IM doing fundraiser. Maybe raffle spring, crab feast in fall to break it up. Discussed “kick off” contest fundraiser. Open business. Again, use google accounts. Update Kristi so she can change emails on website. New business: Need permission to work on Miller Park. AOG gave the green light in lieu of donation, we can work on field. Would prefer to use volunteers first. Jason’s company does that: 2 AOG, 2 Miller fields, quote for during week, labor, rental, seeds, etc.-- $1700. If we could get volunteers, probably $500 or less. Would probably need 4-5 people at least to help. Potentially 11/21. Jason will double check. Met w/IM committee to add regulation: (mentioned in Shawn’s report earlier) Motion passed. All in favor. Player incentive program: consecutive season players get recognition (sweatshirt, plaque, something) to recognize players. Possibly coaches who repeat also. Everyone thought great idea. Will discuss products and cost. School doesn’t have junior high team. Many schools having junior high soccer, can MDSL have involvement? Not sure if that is MDSL’s place within the mission statement. This has been previously discussed and decided against. Still being discussed. Middle and HS play in Spring. Board position nominations for Travel Coordinator, Treasurer, Spring Coordinator, 4-12 Coordinator, Fields Coordinator, and Uniform Coordinator will happen in December. Meeting Adjourned 8:50 p.m. Next meeting on Thursday 12/10/15 7:30 elementary school science lab.
