October 3D Printing Contest @ The Cooper Union Makerspace Objective: Create an amazing 3D printed jack-o-lantern! The best jack-o-lantern will receive a (TBD) prize! Jack-olanterns will be judged on print quality and design creativity.
Rules: 1. Submissions must be printed before October 31st 2. You may submit up to three entries. 3. You may not create inappropriate designs. Inappropriate designs will be disqualified at the Makerspace staff’s discretion. (See Makerspace rules for guidelines.) 4. You may use any of the base files from the Thingiverse page (link) but you may not use other premade pumpkin designs as a base. You may create a design from scratch as long as it stays within the rules. 5. Your file must be printable without supports, excluding ones included in the base model. 6. Your file must not exceed 3 hours of print time. Prints exceeding 3 hours will be stopped midprint and judged as-is. 7. Your design must be able to accomodate a standard electric tea light.
Solidworks guide: A Solidworks model has been provided as a base. A simple way to make your jack-o-lantern is to create a sketch on plane4, and cut-extrude it into the pumpkin body. Be careful not to extrude it beyond the wall of the pumpkin, as you may cut into the opposite wall and the support structure. Further modifications can be made to the shape and scale of the pumpkin, including additional extrusions, editing the original sketches, etc. A cut has been made on the base of the pumpkin to accommodate a tea light, so be wary of modifying that (see rule 7).
