Welcome To The National Flag Football Family!

Official Newsletter - Fall 2015 Mandatory Pregame Huddle Did you go to your pregame huddle last week?? Please arrive to the field 15 minutes prior to game time to meet with the directors. This is a great time to review rules and clear up any questions you may have. Officials Needed! We still need a few extra

Make sure you know the Rules!! We cannot stress this enough! When you are on top of

officials in specific

your game and know the rules, a coach will respect your

locations. If you know a few

calls. This is especially true when you can explain

good men/women that would be interested please have them call the office and ask for Suzanne.

thoroughly what you called and why.

Print and Review the NFF Rule Book! Tip of the Week: Pregame tips Prior to the coin flip, invite out both teams to the center of the field. Have them face each other about 5 yards apart. Ask everyone to say "Cheese!" This will ensure that everyone has a mouthguard. Make sure all jerseys are tucked inside pants or shorts (NOT inside the flag belts). Also check belts to make sure they are on correctly (Not upside down) and that the flags are hanging at the sides of the body and not the front or back. This is a good time to let both teams know the boundaries of the field and ask both the coaches and players if they have any questions. Give the players a rule of the week. For example: "Hey

guys this week we are going to keep an eye out for off sides. Remember no passing the line of scrimmage until the ball is handed off."

NFF Divisions - Age groups

Lombardi - 1st grade and younger

Shula - 2nd and 3rd grade

Madden - 4th grade and older

Divisions are determined by how many children that are registered.

Ejections (page 11 of the rule book) All Ejections need to be discussed with the on-site director. Prior to making an ejection call of a player or a coach call an Officials' time out. Then get the field director. Reasons for an Ejection Flagrant Unsportsmanlike conduct or personal foul. Intentionally tampering with equipment Bad Sportsmanship NATIONAL FLAG FOOTBALL has and always will provide an atmosphere where players, friends and families can feel comfortable enjoying a day of football. Ejection of coaches, players and fans should be a last resort.

Time Situations (page 8 of rule book) Each Team is allowed one 60-second timeout per

half Timeouts do NOT carry over into the next half One Minute Warning Rule in the second half - The clock will stop in the 2nd half ONLY if the score of the game is within an 8 point differential (8 points or less margin). At that point the only thing that will stop the clock is; out of bounds, incompletion, change of possession, timeouts or injuries. When the clock is under a minute be sure to constantly yell out the time. This will help the coaches manage their team and the clock. When the clock is under 25 seconds you should start a countdown so that everyone can hear.

Set the Ball Be sure the Defense has a chance to get set. Remember we are a recreational league. Give the defensive coach time to set the kids before the offense snaps the ball. This is especially true with the Lombardi Divisions. The older kids still should have a chance to get set, however it is ok to remind the Coach to hustle Fumbles and Interceptions - Dead Balls There are NO fumbles. The ball is spotted where the player loses control of the ball. If the fumble happens behind the 40 yard line (one way field only) the ball is placed at the 40 yard line. Interceptions will be spotted at the point of the interception on a TWO way field Interceptions is spotted at the 40 on a ONE way field.

Coaches on the Field (when is it ok?) Coaches are required to wear the coaches shirt or have a field pass provided by the directors Each team may have a maximum of 3 coaches

All coaches, both offensive and defensive must move to the sidelines prior to the snap of the ball (EXCEPT: Lombardi - Offense coaches may stay on the field)
