TEAM

A team will consist of five (5) players on the field, the roster may contain up to ten (12) players. The COACH spot on the roster is only for a non-playing coach, that person is not eligible to play in any games, and must remain in street clothes for the entirety of the tournament. These individuals must also complete all PIRSA Code of Conduct and Waiver documentation. Five (5) players are needed to start a game All players must have signed the roster All players must present a valid University ID to the Tournament Director during Team Check-in. All players will be required to sign the PIRSA Student Code of Conduct Team form and any waiver documentation required by the facility. As a courtesy to the team playing, players will not be allowed on the gym floor until the preceding game on their court is finished. No shooting around while a game is in progress! Only rostered players are permitted in the “bench area.” For players the bench area is the area where the bench is on the sideline, a coach must remain in the “coach’s box” which extends from the end of the bench to the start of the scorer’s table. Spectators are not permitted to be on the sideline which the team’s bench is on. Spectators must sit in the bleachers provided or on the baseline of the court. Spectators: All spectators are expected to adhere to the sportsmanship code. If spectators violate the code, then the team they are supporting can be issued a technical foul. Teams are responsible for controlling their fans.
ATTIRE
Teams are required to wear shirts of the same color with numbers on the back of them. Numbered pinnies WILL NOT are provided by the Tournament Staff if a team does not have matching shirts. Numbers CANNOT be duplicated. (NOTE: Teams are encouraged to provide a “team color” and a white jersey alternate) All players must wear sneakers. Examples of footwear that WILL NOT be permitted by players include: Sandals, flip-flops, bare feet, Crocs Boots, street shoes, moccasins, dress shoes, etc.

The Tournament Committee will provide a game ball. If both teams agree to use a different ball it may be used in place of the Intramural ball, however both teams MUST use the same ball. Warm-up balls are not required to be provided by the facility. It is recommended that teams provide their equipment for warm-up.

Hats ARE NOT permitted to be worn during the game. Headbands are acceptable; however bandanas worn in any fashion are not permitted. Participants are REQUIRED to remove all jewelry prior to competing. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made for wedding rings, piercings or religious bands.
A game will consist of two (2) fifteen (15) minutes halves Halftime will be three (3) minutes long The game clock will only stop for timeouts (team and officials) during the first 28 minutes of the game. During the last two minutes of the second half, the clock will be stopped for dead balls. The clock WILL stop on made baskets in the last minute of play Each team is granted two (2) timeouts per game Timeouts from regulation do not carry over to overtime. Each timeout it is a 45-second timeout Overtime: In the event of a Tie at the end of regulation a three (3) minute overtime period will be played. The last two (2) minutes of each overtime use the same rules as the last two minutes of the second half. Each team will be granted one (1) timeout for overtime. Mercy Rule: A “mercy rule” will be employed when the following occur: o 40-point differential with 5 minutes left or any point after o 30-point differential with 3 ½ minutes left or any point after o 20-point differential with 2 minutes left or any point after

SUBSTITUTIONS Will be carried out on dead balls. ALL substitutes must report to the scorer’s table and kneel down as not to obstruct the view of the scorekeepers. o Subs that do not check in will not be permitted to enter the game.

DUNKING Dunking IS NOT permitted and hanging on the rim is not allowed. Dunking is a technical foul and a player ejection. A dunk during warm-ups or halftime will result in a TECHNICAL FOUL to be shot before the half begins. FOULS Foul shots will be awarded to a player who is fouled in the act of shooting. All other common fouls committed will result in a throw in from the side/baseline nearest to where the foul occurred. Exception: In the event that a team has committed seven (7) team fouls in one half a 1and-1 will be shot on every foul after the seventh. o At 10 fouls a double bonus will be awarded for the remainder of the half. During the double bonus teams will shoot 2 shots on ALL fouls. A flagrant or intentional foul will always result in a two shot foul and possession of the basketball. FOUL SHOOTING PROCESS In the event of foul shots, both teams will be required to promptly assume their position in the foul lane. Any attempt to stall the free throw can result in a technical foul. Free throws will be “ON THE RELEASE” from the players inside of the FOUL LINE. o Any player beyond the three point line must wait until the ball hits the rim, this includes the foul shooter The spot below the BLOCK is ALWAYS open; no player may occupy that spot. TECHNICAL FOULS PLAYERS will who receive (2) Technical Fouls during the course of a game will be ejected in accordance of the NFHS rules Any PLAYER receiving more than three (3) Technical Fouls during the course of the Tournament will be ejected Any TEAM receiving more than five (5) Technical Fouls during the course of the Tournament may be ejected by the Tournament Director. Teams ejected from the tournament will not receive a refund on registration fees or travel expenses.
PROTESTS
Teams wishing to protest a game must make request at the time of the incident. Protests at the conclusion of a game will not be honored. Only “Incorrect Rule Enforcement” by a game official is eligible for protest. “Judgment Calls” made by officials ARE NOT eligible for protest. “Incorrect Rule Enforcement” examples include: Improper procedure after a Technical Foul, Improper number of players or improper inbounding location after time-out. “Judgment Calls” include: All Foul and Violations – (Block vs. Charge, Lane Violations, Jump Balls), player behavior resulting in a technical foul, out-of-bounds call. Protests must be made by the Team Captain to a Game Official, resulting in an Officials Timeout. Protests will stop the game clock and must resolved at the time of announcement. It will be the Tournament Director’s responsibility to rule on all protests. All decisions made by the Tournament Director are final. Once the solution to the protest is determined the game will resume. Additional arguments or protests on the same matter will result in a Technical Foul to the Team Captain and potential ejection from the tournament.
SPORTSMANSHIP
The PIRSA State Championship Series is dedicated to protecting the safety of its members, participants and spectators. All Players are to read and sign the PIRSA State Championship Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct shall serve as a standard for how individuals are expected to behave when participating in a PIRSA Event. Players in violation to the Code of Conduct will be at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
