PLEASE SUPPORT IMPROVEMENTS TO WELLESLEY ROAD, CHISWICK Hounslow Council have drawn up plans to improve Wellesley Road, Chiswick. About three quarters of traffic along Wellesley Road is through traffic. Wellesley Road is a priority route for cycling and is likely to form part of Cycle Superhighway No. 9 into central London.

Option 1 No motor access to South Circular from Wellesley Road and Stile Hall Gardens. Access from South Circular maintained into Clarence Road and Stile Hall Gardens.

Traffic management measures that prevent through traffic are essential to making this a more liveable street and a much safer cycle route.

Option 2 No westbound access for motor vehicles past Oxford Road North, except cycles. Oxford Road North access unaffected.

We suggest our supporters respond to the consultation supporting option 1. We do not believe option 3 will be effective reducing through traffic. The choice between option 1 or 2 primarily affects local residents rather than people cycling through the area. Unless you have a strong alternative preference please follow Hounslow Cycling’s lead and support Option 1.

Option 3 No westbound access on Wellesley Road for motor vehicles past a point between Harvard Road and Oxford Road North. No access to Oxford Road North (except buses and cycles).

JOIN US FOR A ‘MINCE PIE BURNER RIDE’ On 31st December meet at Brentford Market Place at 1:45pm for a refreshing ride. We are looking forward to another exciting calendar of free guided bike rides in the New Year!

CONGRATULATIONS Our Ride Coordinator Winston Gordon won a London Cycling Campaign award: Ride Leader of the year. Many congratulations to Winston. No doubt many of the people who have joined Winston on rides will agree this is very well deserved. Our postcard campaign to urge The Mayor of London to deliver a cycle superhighway to Hounslow also won Best Local Group Campaign Hounslow Cycling also co-sponsored a posthumous award for David Eales. Hounslow Cycling coordinator Brian Smith was quoted in the Hounslow Chronicle saying that “Hounslow Cycling are overjoyed by the awards, particularly David’s award; they recognise the contribution the West has made to cycling in London. West London has quadrupled the number of cyclists. We have and we continue to encourage our children to keep fit and cycle and now West London deserves infrastructure to match. Apparently Heathrow is to get a third runway. Cycling deserves a small fraction of that expenditure: it deserves Cycle Superhighway 9 from Central London to the airport.”

Thank you for your support this year
