Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN Alumnae Chapter April 2017
President’s Message… Book Club Reinvented: Ted Talks
Greetings! I’m a little sad as I sit down to write this President’s corner realizing that this is the last newsletter of my term as ACP. It has been such an honor and a pleasure to serve and represent our vibrant chapter.
The DDD Ted Talks Club allows you to connect with your Tri-Delta sisters and discuss interesting topics from popular Ted Talks* (www.ted.com). Benefit from fresh ideas and intelligent conversation without adding another book to your bedside table. No studying required. This quarter our Ted Talk for the evening was How to spot a liar by Pamela Meyer We watched together and a heartwarming and funny discussion followed.
I think we sometimes take our chapter achievements for granted and assume that we aren’t doing enough. While we should always strive to achieve more, we should be very proud of our accomplishments and the recognition earned nationally within Tri Delta and locally within the Minneapolis Panhellenic community. To continuously grow and improve, we must look backwards and forwards to make sure we’re traveling the right path…that our journey adjusts to the interests and needs of our members. I hope that you took our survey distributed in February. The information gathered will be critical to future planning and objective setting in the years to come. The Alumnae Engagement Co-Chairs will be analyzing the survey results, forming a committee to recommend solutions, and implementing changes over the next year. Stay tuned for some new and exciting changes! I hope that you will be able to attend Pansy Picnic on May 10th. I’m looking forward to it and hope to see all of you there! Alice McNeely Scholarship Benefit Cards and Scholarship Update The following changes have been made to the Alice McNeely Scholarship fund: The Executive Committee voted to change the name to “Minneapolis St. Paul Alumnae Chapter Alice McNeely Scholarship.” This reflects the contributions our alumnae chapter has made and will continue to make to the corpus of the scholarship fund. The Executive Committee voted to move the fund to the Tri Delta Foundation. The fund will be a 501(c) 3, which makes all our contributions tax exempt!! The Foundation will help us choose three potential recipients. Our alumnae chapter will select the final scholarship winner. In the future, please designate all of your Foundation donations to the Minneapolis St. Paul Alumnae Chapter Alice McNeely Scholarship. This will add $$$ to our principle to award a $1,000 scholarship annually. Thank you for your continued support to our scholarship fund. We will keep you informed as this continues to progress and is finalized.
Thanks to the Minneapolis-St. Paul Tri Deltas who joined our Panhellenic sisters to celebrate International Badge Day.

References WRITING A REFERENCE Do you know a young woman interested in joining a sorority? If so, talk to her about the lifetime benefits of membership. Please encourage her to consider recruitment and assist her in any way you can. Our reference can be a form or a letter, completed online or traditional mail. Tri Delta still requires a reference for any new member, this is not true for all the other National Panhellenic Council members. Collegiate chapters appreciate getting them! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

Some chapters rely heavily on references, while others do not. Per the Bylaws of Delta Delta Delta, a PNM may only be pledged to the Fraternity after a valid reference or letter of recommendation has been obtained. The chapter must complete a reference or

providing a collegiate chapter withinformation about a potential new member (PNM) who will be participating in recruitment (rush) — it serves as a tool to gather information about PNMs who might be great additions to a chapter and to Tri Delta. References allow a PNM the chance to stand out during a time when a chapter must release women during recruitment. The act of providing a reference does not guarantee the PNM will be given a bid to Tri Delta, but it does provide additional information that will be studied prior to recruitment. This additional study is the

WHERE CAN I FIND A REFERENCE FORM?

can be found on Tri Delta’s website in the “my Tri Delta” section, under Resources/All Members. After completing the online form, the information will be automatically sent to the chapter reference chair. It is also easy to attach a photo or social resume to the online submission. The pdf format can be printed and mailed, or emailed to the reference chair. The chapter’s address and the reference chair’s email is available by searching “find a chapter” on the Tri Delta website. http://www.tridelta.org/find-a-chapter
