Press Release Strike Out Cancer Game presented by:
Set for May 14th at 11 AM CST
Hampshire vs. Woodstock North, “The Yard” at Hampshire High School To Benefit the Jason Motte Foundation Hampshire, IL March 3, 2016: The high school
baseball programs from Hampshire & Woodstock North have joined forces again with Colorado Rockies reliever Jason Motte in an effort to raise money for people affected by cancer. The Strike Out Cancer campaign is directed by the Jason Motte Foundation. On May 14th at Hampshire High School, a Fox Valley Conference battle will take place on the baseball diamond, but an even bigger battle will take place as Woodstock North & Hampshire join forces to “Work Together To Strike Out Cancer”. Players & coaches from both programs will don Colorado Rockies Jason Motte’s K Cancer T-shirts from 108 Stitches. Each MLB team is promoted by a different player who agreed to join Jason Motte in a partnership that will benefit multiple charities. Each player representative has chosen a charity that will benefit from the T-shirts sales, and for each shirt sold, $10 will be split between the Jason Motte Foundation and the cancer charity of that player's choice. Former Woodstock North Head Baseball Coach and current Strike Out Cancer Game Event Director, Ian Rago said, “I'm so excited to be able to lead both programs in our 3rd KCancer Game. Last year’s event was a huge success, raising 8K for cancer research. It is a testament to two great communities, school districts, and baseball programs. This year we look to continue to improve the event with the Jason Motte Foundation.” The Motte Foundation directs the monies raised toward research all while providing comfort and care where there is a need for those affected, either directly or indirectly, by cancers of all kinds. Another unique feature of Saturday’s contest will be the players exclusively swinging wood bats provided by the Hoosier Bat Company. The 20 colors of cancer awareness will be in the hands of the players, and will draw attention to all forms of cancer. The public will be able to participate in a silent auction to acquire any of the twenty cancer awareness bats.

A variety of items will be available to bid on every inning in a silent auction. Players from both programs will canvass the northwest suburbs of Chicago and reach out to businesses for donations and spread the word about the Strike Out Cancer Game. The student athletes play a large role in giving back, not only to the community, but by identifying teachers and other community members that have been battling cancer. The purple backstop will honor these individuals and will display wood plaques with their names. Upon completion of the Friday, May 13th contest, both baseball programs will conduct the annual “Bat Draft” at Buffalo Wild Wings in Crystal Lake, IL @ 7:30 PM. Each program will take a turn selecting a cancer awareness bat to be used in Saturday’s DH. Woodstock North Head Coach, John Oslovich said, “Woodstock North Baseball is excited to be part of this amazing tradition. Both communities have put forth a lot of effort the past few years and we are glad to see the success that our event has had in raising awareness of all cancers while supporting a wonderful foundation. We are extremely proud and honored to be associated with the K Cancer event for yet another year.” Twitter will be the social media of choice with all pictures being displayed using #KCancer16. Social media also provides a variety of opportunities to interact with our “Strike Out Cancer Game”, so please follow these twitter accounts for more information: @MotteFoundation; @108Stitches; @BWWings; @WNThunder_BB; @WhipsBaseball; & @HoosierBatCo.
