NYC PRIDE 2016 PRIDE PARTNERS OVERVIEW

MEET

A BRIEF HISTORY Early in the morning of June 28th, 1969 the Stonewall Inn was raided by police, a then common occurrence at the Greenwich Village bar that had become a staple of New York City’s underground gay community. But this time it’s members, tired of the ongoing raids, fought back, striking what would become known as The Stonewall Riots. A year after, in 1970, the first Gay Pride March was held by the Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee to commemorate the riots. Heritage of Pride was founded in 1984 to take over the planning of NYC Pride from the disbanded Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee, former organizers of the March, Rally and PrideFest. In 2010, Heritage of Pride began to identify as NYC Pride and dramatically grew out it’s events from 5 in 2009 to a total of 11 in 2015.

WHO IS NYC PRIDE? NYC Pride is produced annually by Heritage of Pride, the 501c3 non-profit that has been in existence since 1984.
