PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, Arbor Day was first observed in 1872 with the planting of more than a million trees; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now recognized and celebrated at various times of the year across the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees reduce erosion, beautify our streets, cut heating and cooling costs, clean the air, cool our local streams and water-bodies, and provide habitat for wildlife; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource, giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires, and countless other wood products; and WHEREAS, trees also increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and add character to our community; NOW THEREFORE, I, John Hopkins, Mayor of the City of Puyallup, Washington, do hereby proclaim April 8, 2017, as

ARBOR DAY in the City of Puyallup, and urge all citizens to celebrate this day and plant trees for the benefit of current and future generations. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have here unto set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Puyallup to be affixed this 4th day of April, 2017.
