Saturday, March 3 Women’s Basketball (23-4) The top-seeded Pointers defeated UW-River Falls and third-seeded UW-Whitewater to capture their fifth consecutive conference title. UWSP received the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Pointers travel to Grand Rapids, Mich., to face Franklin College of Indiana in the opening-round matchup at Calvin College.
Men’s Hockey (14-10-4) Kyle Heck led the Pointers to a NCHA Semifinal victory over St. Scholastica, tallying his 20th goal of the season. The win advanced UWSP to the Peters Cup Championship for the first time since 2000. The team will face defending National Champion and NCHA regular-season champion, St. Norbert College. Game time is set for 7 p.m. March 3 at Cornerstone Community Center in DePere, Wis.
Men’s Basketball (20-7) After defeating UW-Superior Wednesday, the Pointers fell to UW-River Falls in the WIAC Semifinals. UWSP received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and heads to Holland, Mich., to face Illinois Wesleyan University at Hope College.
Wrestling UWSP wrestled its way to a third-place finish at this year’s WIAC Championships. Ben Strobel and Joe Mileski were chosen as wildcard representatives to the national championship at UW-La Crosse March 9-10.
Women’s’ Hockey The women’s hockey season came to an end on Saturday. The Pointers opened their two-game series with a 3-0 victory on Friday, but fell to Adrian 4-3 in overtime, forcing a mini game. In the mini game, the Pointers skated to a scoreless tie, forcing sudden-victory overtime. Just 20 seconds in, an Adrian goal ended the Pointers season with a record of 13-12-2.
Track and Field At the WIAC Indoor Championships, the men’s team finished seventh out of nine teams. The women’s team finished fifth as Julie Colling, Kelly Haen and Erin Kline took home conference titles. The teams return to action at the Pointer Qualifier on March 3 in the team’s final tune-up before the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships held in Grinnel, Ill.

Softball The Pointers went a perfect 4-0 in their season-opening tournament. UWSP tallied a pair of wins over St. Scholastica and the University of Dubuque on Saturday and matched that on Sunday against Simpson (Iowa) and Marian (Wis.) The team now prepares for a trip to Florida for a week of games beginning April 18.
Baseball The Pointers open the season on Sunday, March 4. They will face Gustavus Adolphus in a doubleheader. Game time is set for 7 p.m at Mall of America Field.
