PARENT NEWSLETTER Volume 2 Issue 2 October 2017
From the Principal’s Desk Dear Families, I hope you have been enjoying the unusual warm fall weather. At this point, we hope your children have adjusted to their new schedule and school routine. The month of October was quite busy for all of us. We held our first Welcome Back Parent Night at the beginning of the month. Approximately 60 parents attended several workshops facilitated by the faculty. Last week, we had an ADL training for students to help them become peer mediators. This is in alignment to one of our school’s goals of supporting students’ social and emotional development. About two weeks ago we held our 8th grade Open House. Approximately, 800 parents and students attended this event. Our student panel, consisting of about ten students, did an amazing job during the Q and A segment of the presentation. Finally, last Friday we had our 2017 Halloween Parade. All students who participated had a great time. Thank you so much for your support. I look forward to seeing you at Parent-Teacher Conferences November 9th or November 10th.
Sincerely, Ana De Jesús, Principal

QHSS Open Doors Scholarship - Monday, October 23, 2017 On Monday, October 23rd, this year’s QHSS Open Doors Scholarship recipients attended orientation at the Harold Clurman Theatre on West 42nd Street. Open Doors is a scholarship program funded by the Theatre Development Fund and started by Wendy Wasserstein in 1998 based on the principle that “Theatre is a very personal experience that grows in meaning and depth when shared with others.” The eight scholarship recipients will attend six Broadway shows over the course of the year and will be mentored by Dick Scanlan - a Broadway playwright and director. At the end of the year, students will graduate the program with a 4 year complimentary membership to TDF, so they can continue to see Broadway shows for free. Mrs. Maureau is ecstatic to be taking over this program, and very proud of all of her scholarship recipients.
