SOLAR PANEL CONTRACT & EQUIPMENT Option 1: Purchaser acquires Solar Panel Equipment & Contrat >> There is approx. 14 years left on the solar contract. The Purchaser would acquire both the contract and equipment for $175,000. >> The total cost (real estate + solar contract/equipment) to the Purchaser would be $1,375,000. >> The hydro goes to the grid and the Purchaser would collect annual cheques for this. >> Since inception, the solar has been generating approx. $10,000 to $13,000 per year. >> After the solar contract expires, the hydro goes directly to Unit 1, instead of the grid. In other words, the Purchaser no longer collects money, however will have little to no hydro costs in the future. >> The Purchaser also gets to keep all of the solar equipment after the contract is over. If new solar equipment and panels are installed, the panels will become more effective and the hydro savings will be improved.
Option 2: Seller keeps Solar Panel Contract >> The Seller transfers the deed for the solar panels to the Purchaser and continues to keep the solar contract. As a result, the Seller will continue to collect the income from the solar contract, not the Purchaser. >> The Seller will then purchase special insurance, in order to be liable for any future problems. >> The Purchaser gets to keep all of the equipment, once the contract expires (approx. 14 years). >> The Purchaser will not have to enter into another contract and can either re-install new solar panels and/or remove the panels/equipment entirely.
