Riverwood Herald A publication by the residents of our Riverwood Campus Volume 5 Issue 3 – Spring/Summer 2014

Special Olympics Once again the residents of Riverwood Christian Community participated in the area Special Olympics, which was held Wednesday, April 23rd at Heritage High School. They had a good time competing in the events.

Dollywood No matter how often they go, going to Dollywood is one of the favorite activities of all of our residents. It’s even more fun when accompanied by a church group to walk around the grounds and ride the rides with. Recently our group was accompanied to Dollywood by groups from Crossroads Christian Church (Gray, TN), Grandview Christian Church (Johnson City, TN), and Farragut Christian Church (Knoxville, TN). Here are comments from our friends and some great pictures. When asked what they like best about Dollywood, these are the answers we received: Paula: Being with Mark’s friends (Farragut CC), meeting them and going to the bakery. Riding the train with my new friends, Cassie and Nathan H. and riding the little cars. Meeting new friends. Scott F: Bumper cars and [the] old cars. Don: I like the water ride (Rampage) and getting the girls wet. Hope the next time we go we can eat at Lilly’s Restaurant. I love it. Thank you very much. Deb: I like everything at Dollywood! Mark: It is good. I like the rollercoaster, being with friends, and the Rampage. I bought a new hat! Becky: Being with people, making new friends, Mark, Kenny, and Scott W riding the Rampage with friends. seeing old friends. Food was good. Hanging out with Grandview; riding the train and being with ALL the groups. Brenda: Meeting new friends, being with the groups; riding on the carousel, and the cars. Stacy: Cars, carousel, walking in the shops; saw neat stuff. Saw John Wayne stuff!! The food! Carol: The rides – carousel and train; the food; nice people. Tom, Jr: “Dunno” Lee: Ride the carousel and car. Bought a dog, not a real dog, but a fake dog. 

Kim: Got a cola! Being with the two girls from Nicaragua. Like meeting all the new people. Got to see the people in the park [with] babies and little kids. Got to see things from the train. The train was made in 1929 (or ’30 or ’39)! Scott W: Got to ride the log water ride and getting wet. Riding the new ride; “it was good!” Here are just a few pictures from their day at Dollywood:

A visit from Blount Christian Church On Saturday, May 17th, folks from the Blount Christian Church came out for “workday.” Besides accomplishing goals around our campus, they had time to spend with our residents. Here are a few pictures and comments of why they like to have visitors from that day. Carol: Nice people! Nice seeing them again. Lee: Pretty good! (They let him help build the swing and do yard work.) Scott W: Made friends. Had lunch with them. Stacy: Nice people! Made new friends. Brenda: Having nice friends come out to see us at Riverwood. Becky: Being with them, meeting people, having lunch with them.
