SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 - 5 P.M. Robert Morris (5-8) vs. Saint Francis U. (2-13) DeGol Arena - Loretto, Pa. AGAINST THE RED FLASH The Colonials lead the all-time series with the Red Flash, 54-9. SCOUTING SAINT FRANCIS U. Saint Francis U. went 0-3 at their own Red Flash Classic last weekend. The Red Flash forced a fifth set against both Fordham and Coppin State before falling to the two teams, and suffered a shut out by High Point. Saint Francis U. has not won a match since their 3-2 victory over Canisius at the Akron Tournament on Sept. 4. Senior Hannah Kutny leads the attack for the Red Flash. She has 156 kills on the year and averages 2.84 per set. Setters freshman Amelia Metzler and sophomore Lauren Williams have dished out 248 and 246 assists, respectively. Sophomore Jenna Veres leads the defense with 230 digs (4.18/set) and senior Maria Cup leads the Red Flash block with 30.0 total.
LAST TIME OUT The Colonials went 0-3 at the Blue/Gold Invitational last weekend. RMU took Toledo to five sets, but were unable to sustain enough momentum to secure a victory. Cleveland State and Radford both needed just three sets to close out the Colonials. Freshman outside hitter Taylor Lord was named to the All-Tournament Team for her success over the weekend. Lord posted her first career double-digit kill effort in the loss to Radford Saturday with 10. Across three matches, she combined for 25 kills, 29 digs, three aces, two block assists and a combined .231 hitting percentage. Junior Arden Fisher added two more double-doubles to her growing resume over the weekend with 18 kills and 12 digs against Toledo, and 11 kills and 22 digs versus Radford. The Oakmont, Pa., native has seven double-doubles on the year and 30 in her career.

EARLY SUCCESS Prior to Northeast Conference action, RMU matched its best start in nonconference action under head coach Dale Starr since his 2011 team tabbed a total of five wins versus opponents outside of the NEC. ALL-TOURNAMENT TALENT Robert Morris saw one of its players named MVP in two of four tournaments the Colonials have competed in this year; Liz Campbell was named MVP of the Rose Hill Classic and Arden Fisher was named MVP of the Robert Morris Invitational earlier this season. DOUBLE TROUBLE Two Colonials have regisetered mutliple double-doubles this season: Liz Campbell posted two at the Rose Hill Classic, while Arden Fisher has seven on the year and 29 in her career. A HISTORIC RUN Robert Morris qualified for its 16th consecutive NEC Tournament last season, extending the conference’s longest active streak. In each of those 16 seasons, the Colonials have posted a winning record in league play; the longest such streak of any NEC member, past or present. Over that timespan, RMU has gone 143-33 in conference play:
1999: 9-0 2000: 8-1 2001: 8-1 2002: 9-0

Dale Starr enters his sixth season as the head coach of the Robert Morris University volleyball team. Starr brings a vast background in collegiate coaching to Robert Morris, having served as the head coach at McNeese State University from 2004 until he joined RMU in 2010. He was also the head coach at Division-II Mississippi University for Women from 1999 to 2002. Last season, Starr saw his team compile its best conference record during his tenure (12-2). He led the Colonials to their first NEC Tournament title match since 2010 and had three student-athletes earn All-NEC accolades. RMU paced the league in blocks (2.41 per set; 2.92 in conference). The Colonials also finished second in digs, opponent hitting percentage and hitting percentage. In a four-set match at Sacred Heart, RMU broke the single-game program record for total blocks and block assists with 21.5 and 39, respectively. In 2013, Starr guided a senior-less RMU team to their 15th-consecutive NEC Tournament berth, finishing the conference slate with a record of 8-6. The Colonials led the conference in digs and Starr had a student-athlete make an All-NEC team for the fourth straight season. On Oct. 19, Starr earned his 200th career win with a three-set sweep of St. Francis (Pa.). With a senior-heavy roster in 2012, Starr led the Colonials to their 14th-consecutive NEC Tournament behind the strength of 13 regular-season wins against NEC foes. Despite a slow start in early-season tournaments, Starr led RMU to a thrilling five-set victory over West Virginia, the first victory over a Big-XII team in program history. Two members of Starr’s 2012 squad would earn All-NEC honors for the second-consecutive season, while one studentathlete would lead the NEC in blocks per match. The highlight of the 2011 season under Starr had to be the three-set sweep of crosstown-rival Pittsburgh. The win was the first victory over the Panthers in program history. Behind a 10-6 record in the NEC, the Colonials would earn a postseason berth for the 13th-consecutive time, while two of Starr’s student-athletes would earn All-NEC accolades. In his first season with Robert Morris, two of Starr’s student-athletes claimed first team all-conference honors in 2010 and a total of four claimed weekly honors from the NEC. Some of the highlights for Starr’s first season occurred off the court due to the Colonials’ gaudy academic performances. Starr guided his squad to a victory over then six-time defending NEC champion LIU-Brooklyn in the conference tournament semifinals. After eliminating the Blackbirds in a thrilling, five-set match, RMU competed in its 13th league championship match, extending its own conference record.
