ROHAN QUILTERS
OCTOBER 2017
GET READY FOR THE CL ASS WITH MARIE ANDERSON Save the date, February 20th for the Marie Anderson workshop. She will teach us a Quilt As You Sew technique to create a Mini Mosaic table runner. Marie owns a quilt shop near Eustis called Material Girl Quilt Shop. A few of us visited her quilt shop to “interview” her to see if she would be a presenter we would want to invite into our chapter. We loved her shop, her enthusiasm and passion for quilting. We recommend you take a look at her website redhartquilts.com to see some of her original designs.
The address of her quilt shop is: 36844 Hart Ranch Road Eustis, FL 32736 phone number 407-252-2539 Store hours are Mon-Sat 10-4 In the three hour workshop she assured us that we will have at least four out of the ten blocks completed and the knowledge to complete the rest of the table runner on our own. Cost and Supplies: *Marie charges $25 fee per person. Our Rohan Chapter will cover $10 of the fee for each person, so you will only be paying $15 *You will need a kit (which you purchase from Marie) that includes the pattern, fabric, backing, and batting. Once you have gone to her shop and selected your fabric she WILL CUT THE FABRICS FOR YOU! The cost of the kit is $25,
but if you buy the fabric from her you get a 20% discount on the kit. The kits will be assembled for us and distributed the day of the workshop. **You might ask, “Could I just use fabric I already have?” We don’t recommend doing this. While you are cutting your fabric the rest of the group will be getting to work on the kits Marie will bring to class with the fabric you picked out already cut for you. P R E S I D E N T S M E S S AG E Where oh where did September go? That month just flew by, with the help of Irma that is. Hopefully we are all getting back to normal or normal as it goes in The Villages. We are so happy to welcome 10 new members to the chapter since the beginning of September. I am looking forward to the talents that they each bring to the group. We never stop learning from each other, no
matter how many years we have been quilting Saturday October 7th is the Creative Quilters market at the Savannah Center, 8:30 to 12:30, bring your Village neighbors and get some Christmas and holiday shopping done. There will be 30 tables of crafters so should be a great variety of items. Any of the days that have a scheduled trip and you do
not want to attend, we still have the room at Rohan for anyone that wants to bring your machine in and sew. Thank you all for your great ideas, questions and enthusiasm each and every week. As a group we make a great chapter. Happy Quilting, Beth

October Guild Meeting - Jane Sassaman Quilting Against the Odds This visual lecture is about accomplishing your work in spite of obstacles - family life, space limitations, etc. It is a pep talk and slide show which covers my inspirations and my obstacles. I encourage people to do "what you have to do" by using myself and other artists as examples. Jane is a quilt artist and fabric designer whose art quilts have been shown in many national and international exhibits, in-
cluding Quilt National 1989 through 2005 and Contemporary American Quilts, the first major exhibit of American art quilts in England. Her quilt “Willow” was named as One of the One Hundred Best American Quilts of the Century. Jane is also the author of “The Quilted Garden”. The book includes twenty years of her work and exercises for making natureinspired quilts. Her designs are oversized and colorful and have
been coined as “William Morris on anti-depressants”. They are created for quilts, wearables and home decorating. Her latest book, Patchwork Sassaman Style, beautifully illustrates her fabric “in action”.
