The trail starts at Temple Quarry Trail. This area was a busy place for mining, lumbering and quarrying in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The Mormon Pioneers use rock from this site to build some of the Salt Lake Temple. Start hiking the road on Temple Quarry Trail and you leave the area quickly. When the road splits, take the dirt road on Power Plant Lane. The road passes by a water treatment plant and there is a gate crossing it. Go around the gate and continue toward the first bridge over Little Cottonwood Creek. You arrive at the bridge at 1.29 miles, as the shady trail stays close to the creek. Next you cross a footbridge then arrive at the second bridge at 2.65 miles. On the other side of the second bridge is a pipeline and you see the trail near a water wheel. Check out the water wheel then continue uphill. At 3.5 miles you arrive at the old ruin, which sits across the creek. Little Cottonwood Trail is popular with mountain bikers, so keep an eye out for them moving quickly downhill. On the way back to your car, look for rock climbers on the granite cliffs to the north and mountain goats to the south. Enjoy! Little Cottonwood Start park-n-ride 5,430 ft.
