2 Fabric Palette® Scribble Animal Flannel Bundles (10 - 18" x 21" / 45.7cm x 53.3cm) Coordinating thread Rotary cutter, mat and acrylic ruler Removable marking tool Basic sewing supplies Sewing machine Iron Spring-loaded scissors (optional)
B efore you begin Read all instructions before beginning project. Do not prewash fabrics. Press flannel fabrics on cotton setting before cutting. Use a ½" (1.3cm) seam allowance.

Fabrics A-E (18" x 21" each)
Cutting Bundle Fabrics A-E: Cut 4 - 8 ½" x 8 ½" (21.6cm x 21.6cm) squares from each fabric (Dia. A). Set aside and label Quilt Front. Repeat with the second bundle and set aside for Quilt Back.
Sewing 1. Using the Quilt Front stack of squares, mark a diagonal line in both directions on the right side of the 20 squares using a removable marking tool (Dia. B).
2. Select a marked square (Front) and a matching unmarked square (Back). Layer squares with wrong sides together. Align edges and pin (Dia. C). Repeat to pin a total of 20 pairs of flannel squares. Flannel Square (Right side)
3. With marked side facing up, sew through both layers following the “X” marked on the flannel. Repeat to sew a total of 20 squares (Dia. D). Dia. D

4. Refer to Diagram E to arrange the squares in five rows of 4 each. Start with Row 1 and pin the first two squares with Back sides together; sew. The seam will be on the front, facing you. In the same manner, sew the next two squares to complete Row 1. Repeat for Rows 2-5. Pin Rows 1 and 2 with Back sides together. Match the seams with the seam allowances open and sew with a backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam. Dia. E

5. Topstitch ½" (1.3cm) around the outside edge. Sew with the Front side up and open the seams as you sew over them (Dia. F). 6. Carefully clip all seams up to but not through the stitching line, approximately ½" (1.3cm) apart, including the outside edge (Dia. F). Note: Clip through both layers at the same time being careful not to clip into the seam. Tip: Any sharp scissors will work, but spring-loaded scissors reduce hand fatigue.

Finishing To fray and soften the cut fringe, machine wash with a mild soap in cold water, regular cycle; then machine dry.
