Spring 2007

25 Year – Still Counting! E x c e l C o - o p ’s General Manager, George Green, recently received a plaque recognizing his 25th year as a manager in the Land O’ Lakes Cooperative system. He was presented his award at the Land O’ Lakes annual meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His first management position was in 1982 as the General Manager of Kosciusko County Farm Bureau Co-op. In 1984 he became Manager of Carroll County Farm Bureau Co-op which would later become part of Excel Co-op, Inc. He was appointed General Manager of Excel Co-op, Inc at the time of merger in 1996 and serves in that capacity yet today. With George’s management, our Co-op has grown from $12 million on supply and grain sales to over $80 million. What an accomplishment!! What opportunities are there in the next 25 years? Thanks George and keep up the good work.

Area Young Farmers attend Co-op Leadership Conference Land O’ Lakes held its 2007 Co-op Leadership 101 Conference in conjunction with the Land O’ Lakes 86th Annual Meeting February 20-22nd in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The conference attracted over 70 producers from 10 states! Young Farmers attending and sponsored by Excel Co-op, Inc were: Steve & Angie May (Camden, IN), Eric & Wendy Miller (Denver, IN), and Rob & Paula Ballinger (Kokomo, IN). Conference Goals: 1. To show why the Cooperative system was formed. How it functions and how it is an extension of each member – owner’s business. 2. To explain how Land O’ Lakes is organized. 3. To give producers the opportunity to visit with elected directors and staff. 4. To meet with other producers, exchange ideas and learn from each other. Our Young Farmers agreed it was a great opportunity to meet other Young Producers from across the country and explore the differences and similarities in their farming operations.
