Sermon Study Guide “Releasing the Creative Power of Your Tongue ” November 3-4, 2012

For individual, family or group study Icebreaker

Do you usually send heart-felt or humorous greeting cards? Why?

Points to Ponder

We speak an average of 100-175 words per minute. Ephesians 4:29 (The Message Bible) Each word is a gift. Imagine for a moment being able to give out 100 gifts per minute without spending a dime.

Read Out Loud (Ephesians 4:29) 1. 2. 3.

When the verse says “unwholesome talk,” what does it refer to? Name several words that you feel would “build others up.” How do you think words “benefit” those that listen?

Talk It Over (Acts 1:8) 1. 2. 3.

Share a time when someone’s tongue brought life to you through their words… What words brought death? When you think of your own self-talk, are your words more lifeproducing or death-producing? Our words often create the world in which we live. How have you experienced this truth in your life?

Work It Out~Do It! (Proverbs 18:21) Are you tapping into the life-giving power of the tongue? Making Sure:   

The input into my mind is life-producing. Ponder the Lord’s words for you. (Bible/ Still Small Voice/Nudges) Memorize and Pray: Psalm 141:3 “Set a guard over my mouth, Lord keep watch over the door of my lips.”

Pray It Through

Lord please guard my mouth. Let my words build others up and encourage them in their walk with you. Thank you for the words you speak over my life. ~Amen.
