November President’s Message
November 2014
I can’t believe that we are in November already ~ this year is certainly flying by! November is the month that we dedicate the time to truly be thankful for the many blessings we have in our lives. On November th 11 we celebrated Veteran’s Day. On this day we honor and thank all of our veterans, both present and past, for their service to this wonderful country of ours. Their service and sacrifice afford us the freedoms we share and enjoy in today. Without their dedication and selfless giving of their time and talents, the United States would not be what it is today. Thank you to all veterans and their families! Since my last President’s Message, we have celebrated our Executive Night event at the Hershey Country Club. Not only did our boss’s and/or mentors attend this event, but also our friends at the Hershey Chapter. It was very nice to have everyone together again! I want to thank Helen Wallace, CAP-OM, Chair of the Executive Night Committee and all of the members of that committee involved in the planning process at both the Harrisburg and Hershey Chapters. This was an exceptional evening filled with great food, great friends and great entertainment. To Helen and her committee: Thank you for all your hard work, it certainly paid off ~ a fun time was had by all! We also had the opportunity to attend the Eastern Fall Education Conference in Allentown. This was an informative morning shared with fellow members from many chapters across eastern Pennsylvania. There were 41 participants at the conference. I am proud to report that Harrisburg had 12 members in attendance! We started off the morning with an education session entitled “Managing Change in the Workplace” with Becky Patrick followed by International and Division Updates with our very own Deb Feinberg, CAP-OM-TA, Pennsylvania Division President and Harrisburg Chapter Member. We ended our gathering with a very nice luncheon and roundtable discussion. Thank you to the members of the Harrisburg Chapter for voting to pay registration costs for any member who wanted to attend this session! Personally, I am very thankful for my wonderful, crazy and loving family ~ they bring my life so much joy! I am also blessed to have a life filled with wonderful friendships. I am grateful to be employed, to have a roof over my head, food in my refrigerator and heat to warm me from the cold. I am thankful to be in relatively good health. I am also thankful for the friendships I have made with each of you as a result of my membership in this association! I hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE The IAAP Revitalization initiative, with its variety of organizational enhancements and multitude of member driven activities, is currently underway. As many of you are noticing, things are changing around us. Just a few days ago, new information about Branches and LANs was released. These new local educational and leadership opportunities will be “governance free” and rather than an emphasis on paperwork and compliance tasks will focus on IAAP’s revitalized emphasis on valuable education, networking, and professional development. Branches will ensure IAAP members have a wealth of opportunities to connect, learn, lead, and excel. Branches will advance the mission of IAAP through professional development, volunteer/member service and networking, and renewed opportunities like Branch events to stimulate membership growth and retention. LANs (Local Area Networks) will serve as a frequent, local touch point for members. LANs will be member-driven, member-created, and membersupported just like the former chapters. However, because governance and the need to fund and support chapters has been removed—LANs and Branches will focus on what matters most to IAAP members: being the best at what we do – and being recognized as the cream of the crop in our profession. For more information, take a look at the Branches and LANs documents in the web community. Be sure to read through all of the new guides, brochures, and other communications that will come your way in the coming months. It’s important to be knowledgeable about these new changes in our association and I urge you to do your part by staying informed. The Board of Directors and Headquarters Staff have realigned IAAP’s technique for disseminating information to the membership, including our recent switch to a new email service. This update will ensure you are well informed about the new changes. Even though IAAP is in transition, our association continues to offer a wealth of resources, education, and support. There is no need or reason someone should wait to join IAAP. As a member of IAAP, your experiences, connections, and knowledge will help potential members see, first-hand, how IAAP can truly transform a career. This revitalization is the time where we can all grow together as an association and help create something we’re all proud of having contributing to. If you are faced with tough questions about growth during the IAAP Revitalization, please read the Being an IAAP Advocate Guide for helpful messaging and techniques. We want the new IAAP to be fresh, inspiring, and active. In order for that to happen, we all need to join together to help cultivate and develop our association. Our strength in numbers, passion, and dedication is necessary to both ease IAAP into its new structure as well as grow our membership to ensure our association stays vibrant. IAAP has just launched a very exciting member recruitment campaign, Grow. By sharing your passion for IAAP, you’ll gain a sense of accomplishment for helping your association grow and be personally rewarded for your involvement with some amazing incentives (like free webinars). Headquarters staff is dedicated to recruiting new members via this campaign. So much so that each staff member has committed to recruit at least one member. The Board of Directors have also gotten involved with this campaign. Every board member has made an enthusiastic commitment to recruit at least one member and efforts to do so have already begun. I urge you to take part in this initiative and spread the word about IAAP. It’s a fantastic way to reap the benefits of IAAP and share them with others. Until next month, Antoinette Smith, CAP-OM IAAP President

Hello Pennsylvania Division Members and Happy November. st
I'd like to first apologize for this message being late. I had every intention of posting this message on November 1 but when I sat th down and looked at the calendar, it was November 11 - how the heck did that happen. For those that attended the Pennsylvania Division East and West Conferences, weren't they great mornings? For those that did not attend, you missed out on two really great speakers and two mornings of open communication and great networking. Thanks to the members of both of the committees who helped the Board plan and implement the events. For the West Conference Lyndee Long, CAP-OM; Sheila Lidwell, CAP-OM; Maria Carney, CAP-TA; and Karen Jendruczak, CAP-OM. For the East Conference Pam Neubaum, CAP-OM; Karen Folk, CAP-OM; Cristin Keppel; Amy Maslo, Regina Warner, CAP, and Tanya Fuhrmeister, CAP-OM. The Board appreciates all you did to help make the days successful. Thank you to all that responded to our one question survey regarding your thoughts on holding a Pennsylvania Division 2015 Education Conference. I am happy to report that the votes were 2 to 1 in favor of holding a Conference so we will. Plans are in the very early stages and more information will be forthcoming in the next couple of weeks, including dates and the location. Lyndee Long, CAP-OM has agreed to work with the Board to coordinate the weekend (thank you) and we will be putting out a call for volunteers very soon. As I sit and write this I am reminded that today is Veteran's Day - a day set aside for us to thank all those brave men and women who have sacrificed so much so that we can all live in this great country that is America - home of the free, land of the brave. Thank you to all those who served, fought and died, but thank you also to the wives, husbands, mothers, fathers and children of those brave men and women - your sacrifices are not forgotten. Lastly, as we begin this busy time of the holiday rush, I would like to remind everyone to take some time to stop and realize all we have to be thankful for on a daily basis - not only basics like food, clothing, warm homes - but also the things that many take for granted - freedom of choice, the love of our families and good friends, just to name a few. I wish each and every one of you a safe and joy-filled Thanksgiving Day! Debra Feinberg, CAP-OM-TA 2014-2015 Pennsylvania Division President Camp Hill, PA
