2015 Fall Schedule CLIMBING WALL Tuesday & Thursday 4- 6 p.m. Wednesday 7- 9 p.m. Friday 3- 6 p.m. Saturday & Sunday 1- 4 p.m. Belay Clinics & Testing: Tuesday 4- 6 p.m. & Friday 3- 6pm Get vertical! Shoes and harnesses are available for free. Climbers must pass a belay test to use the ropes on their own. Don’t know how to climb or just want to try it? No problem! Come to an open clinic hour and we’ll teach you. Guests welcome.

OPEN BOATHOUSE Monday-Friday 1- 5 p.m. Saturday & Sunday 1- 5 p.m. *Dam Repairs will delay opening 2015 The Paradise Pond Boathouse is open to the Smith community September, October, and then again after Spring Break. No experience required (just an ID) to use a rowboat, kayak, canoe or standup paddle board. Basic instruction provided. On campus use only. Guests welcome.

GEAR ROOM Hours change by semester and are posted at the Boathouse, Climbing wall and on Athletics & Recreation dept. website. Membership cost is: Students: $15/semester or $20/academic year Faculty/Staff: $25/semester or $40/academic year By joining the Gear Rental Program you enjoy unlimited use of the Outdoor Adventure Program equipment for your own personal trips! Whether you’re going out for an afternoon, planning an overnight or have a field trip for a class, you can now check out a variety of camping equipment and other outdoor gear. Located in the Paradise Pond Boathouse, we have climbing gear, sleeping bags, backpacks, snowshoes, cross-country skis, mountain bikes and more!

We have excellent student trip leaders who are committed to keeping outdoor adventure alive at Smith! We believe an active outdoor lifestyle leads to healthy, happy and productive people. Our goal is to provide a variety of fun activities that will get you outside, playing hard, and learning new skills along the way. Interested in becoming a student leader? Outdoor Skills Clinics The following clinics are mostly free, open to all, and set up for those wanting to learn a new skill without a big time commitment. Contact us for more details! Canoe Clinic: Pending Dam repair-Paradise Pond Kayak Clinic: Pending Dam repair-Paradise Pond Indoor Kayak Pool Sessions. Beginning in November! Learn basic paddling strokes, wet exits rolling and more! Ainsworth Pool, Friday nights 6- 8 p.m. J-term Wilderness First Aid Certification Course. Saturday-Sunday, January 23-24, 2016, ($150.00). Rock Climbing clinics: Weekly Tuesdays 4-6 and Fridays from 3-6pm. Learn to belay, climbing technique and more!

Fall 2015 Trip Schedule email: [email protected] Weekday Adventures. Twice per week, 4:30-6:30pm September- October. Tuesdays are Adventure Day with a new activity each week. Check Boathouse kiosk or online schedule for details. Thursdays are Local Hiking Trips along the Holyoke range. No pre-registration required. Meet at the Boathouse. Can oe or S ea Kay ak. September 26 & October 4. Relaxing flat-water float trips on the Connecticut River. Both trips meet at the Boathouse at 10 a.m. (4-5 hours). Pack a snack/lunch and water bottle. Specify canoe or kayak when registering. Rock Climbing. September 13 & 27 (local trips); Rumney overnight October 31-Nov. 1 ($10). We will leave the Boathouse at 8 a.m. and return late afternoon. All equipment and instruction provided. Belay certification from the Smith wall strongly recommended. Specify your shoe size when registering.. Pack a lunch and water Overnight Camping Trips. September 25 & November 6. S’mores anyone? Camp with us at the Macliesh Field Station in nearby West Whately. Get your dose of woods!

Whitewater Raft & kayak. September 19 (rafting) & Octobe October 3 (kayak). Float the scenic Deerfield R. valley! Learn how to read rivers and maneuver through rapids. Fall Break Backpacking Trip. October 10-12 ($10). Backpack along the Long Trail in Vermont. Expect moderately difficult backpacking through beautiful mountains with a few good summit views. Leave early on the 12th and return the afternoon of the 15th. Some experience preferred. Family Weekend River Walk. October 24. Join us Saturday morning 10-11:30 a.m. for a pleasant hike along the trails surrounding campus. No preregistration. Meet at the Boathouse. Mountain Day. Join us at the Macleish Field Station every year for apple picking, hike some trails or take a tour on the awesome challenge course! Hiking Trips. November 15 (Mt. Greylock) Explore a scenic section of the AT and the tallest peak in Mass! Hiking time is 3+ hours and leaves campus from Sage Hall at 8:30 a.m.
