New Hampshire (2-2) March 19 • New Haven, Conn. • 1 p.m. THE HOMESTAND CONTINUES The Southern Connecticut State University women’s lacrosse team hosts Queens and Southern New Hampshire in a pair of contests this week. The Owls entertain Queens on Thursday at 4 p.m. before opening Northeast-10 Conference play against SNHU on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jess Dow Field. HEIPLE STARTS OFF STRONG Junior Elaina Heiple set new career-highs in goals (four) and points (five) in the season opener against Mercy. CLARK MAKES A QUICK IMPACT Freshman Sarah Clark netted a hat trick in her collegiate debut against Mercy on March 10. A NEW FACE BETWEEN THE PIPES Sophomore Colleen Gore turned away 14 shots in her collegiate debut with the Owls last time out. Gore stepped in for Lisa Corso, who played nearly every minute in goal in each of the last four seasons. THE CAPTAINS Head coach Kelley Frassinelli has announced that graduate student Marissa Ryan, senior Lauren Horner and junior Elaina Heiple will serve as team captains this spring. IN THE NORTHEAST-10 PRESEASON POLL The Owls were selected 13th in the Northeast-10 preseason poll as voted on by the league’s coaches. FIREPOWER COMING BACK Four of the top six scorers from a year ago are returning for the Owls this spring. STARTING AT THE FRIENDLY CONFINES Southern Connecticut opens the year with three straight home games and four home contests in the first five outings.

A BALANCED ATTACK The Owls had five student-athletes - Teresa Monfredo, KellyAnne McCafferty, Jessica Shaw, Elaina Heiple and Liz Dishian - all registered double digits in points during the 2010 season. TWO OWLS EARN IWLCA RECOGNITION Lauren Karn and Marissa Ryan were both selected to the IWLCA All-Academic squad for their efforts in the classroom during the 2009-10 academic year. It was the second straight year that the duo was honored by the IWLCA. TRIO HONORED BY DIVISION II ATHLETIC DIRECTORS Lauren Karn, Marissa Ryan and Elaina Heiple were all recognized by the Division II Athletic Directors Association with their Academic Achievement Award for their efforts in the classroom during the 2009-10 academic year. In order to qualify for the award, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5.

KARN SCOOPED THEM UP Lauren Karn concluded her Owls’ caerer ranked second alltime in groundballs at Southern Connecticut with 121. TAMMARO SAVES BEST FOR LAST Danielle Tammaro set a personal single-season high for groundballs in 2010 when she ranked second on the team in that department with 30. SHAW PACED THE ROOKIES Jessica Shaw led all freshmen with 19 points on the year (15 goals, four assists) in 2010. ON DECK The Owls are back in action on March 23 for a road game at AIC.

CORSO CLOSES A FINE CAREER Goalie Lisa Corso capped her Southern Connecticut career in 2010 and left an indelible mark on the Owls’ record books. She is first all-time in saves (747) and third in groundballs (113) all-time. Corso also holds four of the top six singleseason save outputs in school history. MONFREDO RANKED WITH THE BEST Teresa Monfredo led the Owls in scoring for the third consecutive season in 2010. She finished the year with 26 points (23 goals, three assists). In the process, Monfredo finished second all-time at SCSU in goals (98) and points (107). She was just the second player in program history to reach the 100 point mark.
