About HSBH Established in 2006 by the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University. Our mission: To inspire and motivate high school youth about post secondary studies and attract the brightest young minds to university programs in business. Our means: Offer a challenging, competitive and rewarding experiential learning activity that engages high school students as well as their teachers / mentors. University students act as peer leaders to share their experience and expertise to get the best effort from each high school team. The rewards: Hundreds of dollars in prize money for the top three teams and their schools. Importantly, learning opportunities that truly inspire and motivate each team to win and pursue a brighter future. The details: Students from various school boards across Ontario will join together in teams of 2-4 to compete and develop a solution to a business challenge presented by an industry sponsor. Example: in 2012 Hamilton Bulldogs asked teams to address the business problem of low home game attendance. Students received coaching from McMaster University students and alumni, where given free tickets to experience a game, and were encouraged to conduct market research before developing their creative solutions. The timing: January- Registration opens and schools receive info on the program. McMaster University students run info sessions at high schools February- Registration closes and the challenge is announced Feb / March- Mentoring begins with coaching sessions offered at McMaster University by industry leaders and alumni. April- High school youth submit their reports and the finalists are announced May- Finals are held at McMaster University and winners announced. Why HSBH? Allow high school students to gain real-world business skills through a rewarding experience. Provides students with the opportunity to work with business professionals as well as professors and current students of the DeGroote School of Business. Students will be given the opportunity to connect with other students of their age group from different school boards.

Attract the brightest to pursue undergraduate studies in business at McMaster University and nurture our talent for the local economy Create community leadership and mentoring opportunities for DeGroote students to help them develop their managerial capabilities. Past Successes Partnered with brands like Hamilton Bulldogs, Investors Group, Harvey’s and Xerox Canada. Offered over $5000 in prize money and scholarships for summer learning at McMaster University. Students created and executed charitable fund raising events that raised over $8000 Many high school youth participants from 2007-11 are now enrolled in programs at McMaster University and one of the first participants just graduated in May 2012. Many of the HSBH contestants have earned student leadership roles at McMaster University and travelled on international exchange study terms to build their profile.
