AYSO Philosophies: Everyone Plays • Our program’s goal is for kids to play soccer—so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.

Balanced Teams • Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible — because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.

AYSO Philosophies: Open Registration • Our program is open to all children who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.

Positive Coaching • Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment by the players and ultimately leads to betterskilled and better-motivated players.

AYSO Philosophies: Good Sportsmanship • We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win at all costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO. Player Development • We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.

Development Over Winning “One of my biggest pet peeves is youth team coaches who take winning too seriously. This has always bothered me, and I always tell coaches to forget about winning with young players. Development Over Winning • Does NOT reduce competition! • Competitive environment does not need to be about Wins, Draws, Losses • Focus on performance rather than outcome (ball skill, effort vs. score) • Children should be competitive, not the adults! • It is our responsibility as coaches to control & create a healthy environment for learning!

Becoming a Volunteer • ALL coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers with any responsibility for the youth players must have an APPROVED volunteer form in the system BEFORE games/practices • ALL coaches, assistant coaches and volunteers with any responsibility for the youth players must have Safe Haven certification in the system BEFORE games/practices • ALL coaches and assistant coaches must have Concussion Awareness certification in the system BEFORE games/practices • DO NOT participate in any AYSO game/practice without taking these steps.

Field Layout

Team Packets – Call your players ASAP, before 08/25/2017 please !!! – Schedule a parent and player meeting before your first practice/game to meet your players and parents and assign uniforms (bring a helper to facilitate activities for the kids) – All players must have a Kids Zone Pledge and a Park waiver on file – Have emergency Medical Forms at all practices and games! – Do NOT add players to your roster – Do not ‘trade’ players without DC and Registrar approval

Heading For all players in U-12 and younger age divisions, there shall be no deliberate heading of the ball in games or in practice. • If this happens during a game, the restart shall be an Indirect Free Kick (IFK) for the opposing team at the spot where the player deliberately headed the ball, subject to the IFK restrictions inside the Goal Area. • There shall be NO teaching / coaching of heading during practice, nor shall deliberate heading be allowed during practice play. For all players above the U-12 age division, there are no restrictions on heading the ball during games. However, heading in practice is limited to a maximum of thirty (30) minutes per week with no more than 15 headers per player per week.

Player’s Equipment Games and Practices Nothing dangerous (in your opinion) No jewelry, watches, earrings (even if covered) No casts or splints (even if padded) Knee braces are okay, but only if padded and safe to all players (in your opinion) Medical alert bracelets may be worn, but must be secured to the player with tape, cloth wristband or something similar that is safe. For each attacking principle, there is a defending principle to counter it. Attacking

Penetration 10U Advancing the ball past opposing players by dribbling, passing and shooting.

Support 10U Supporting teammates by creating safe passing options for the player with the ball.

Defending

Pressure 10U Pressuring opponents in possession by giving immediate chase, denying their options, i.e., dribbling, passing, shooting, etc., or delaying the opponents in order to regain possession.

Cover 10U Supporting the player(s) challenging the ball in case they are beaten.

Mobility 10U Players changing positions (filling in for one another when necessary) and moving off the ball, creating numerical advantages and thereby attacking/scoring opportunities.

Balance 10U Reading the attack and providing an equal or greater number of defenders than attackers at the point of attack, while simultaneously covering the vital area near the goal.

Width 10U Attacking on a broad front (players spread out) stretches the defense and creates space for players to advance.

Compactness 10U Compressing or restricting the space the attacking team has by “shepherding” them into a confined area making it easier to defend and regain possession of the ball.

Weather Policy • Cancellation of Games: – Inclement weather (lightning, thunder, tornado warning or severe thunderstorm warning) may necessitate the canceling of games from time to time. Every attempt will be made to contact players, via coaches, AYSO 212 Website, WWMT Website, or other forms of electronic communication, as early as possible. Games will be canceled on an hour by hour basis. Inclement weather preceding a games designated start time by ½ hour will constitute cancellation. Games that are canceled will not be made up. Games may only be canceled by the Regional Commissioner or his or her designee.
