IN THIS ISSUE

Another Great Year in the Books This year’s track and field season was surely one of the best in a long time. It was filled with solid performances throughout the indoor and outdoor seasons by both men’s and women’s teams. Each team was responsible for numerous highlights including All-NSIC Honors, NCAA provisional marks, NCAA qualifiers, and an NCAA AllAmerican. Leading the charge on the men’s side was senior sprinter George Kawalawu who was responsible for posting a conference championship in the 60m dash, conference runner-up in the 100m dash, and AllAmerican honors in the 60m dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Also, playing a large role in the team success on the men’s side was freshman jumper Keyshawn Davis who was able to excel in the long jump and triple jump from the very first time he sported a Husky uniform. His conference title in the long jump at the NSIC Outdoor Championships along with two runner-up finishes at the Indoor Championships were a definite bright spot on the year. The women’s team also had a season filled with impressive marks and overall team improvement. Cassie Cardinal, Laure Olson, Patience Yalartai and Kassie Vaness all hit

NCAA provisional qualifying marks and scored significant points at the NSIC Conference Championships. Kassie Vaness and Sam Sunstrom continued to run well and build on their cross country success by ending their outdoor seasons with 5th and 7th place finishes in the 10k, respectively, at the NSIC Outdoor Championships. This success, along with the success by other athletes have us all looking forward to next season. The first season up is Cross Country, and even though Vaness who recently graduated with her degree in accounting, will no longer around to lead the Husky distance group next season, there are numerous new faces joining the cross country teams that will help fill the void. We are definitely looking forward to the great things this young group of runners can achieve this upcoming fall. With this great a deal of achievement on the track, it is important to also recognize our team’s efforts in the classroom where the cumulative GPA has improved not only for our team, but the entire athletic department. It is hard to feel anything but excitement for what the future holds. Next year’s seasons should be a lot of fun. Go Husky’s!!!
