St. John Fisher Catholic Primary School Growing and Learning Together with Christ

Friday 2nd December 2016

Newsletter No. 12 Dear Parents,

Pinner Cluster Carol Service: Our Year 6 pupils and staff joined other Pinner pupils in our annual carol service at Pinner Free Church last Wednesday. It was a lovely service with a violin trio from Grace Ruddy, Cruz Almeida and Anna Stimpson. Mrs. MacPherson accompanied them beautifully. Blessing of the Cribs: It was lovely to come into the hall on Wednesday and see so many cribs, all different shapes and sizes. Fr Shaun was delighted to share the early morning start with us, making our few moments of prayer very special.

Bling a Bike: Well done to all the pupils who decorated their bikes with such flair and creativity. All participtated in a Bikers’ Breakfast which was thoroughly enjoyed by all! Congratulations to our winners Marianna Rosa and Ben Evans. Mince Pies: We would appreciate any donations of mince pies/chocolate log or other Christmas edibles for the Christmas Tea/Coffee Afternoon next Friday; also any raffle prize donations. Please leave any donations at the school office by Thursday morning. Parking: Reported this week, a grey Mazda DC53 CVO, which was parked directly in front of the Residents Parking Only sign in the lane at the end of Kingsley Road. Unfortunately we have had to deal with an irate resident in Cambridge Road this week who, for the umpteenth time, had someone park over her drive. We reassure residents that we remind parents to be courteous and not to park across drives but we need you to do your part and co-operate by not parking where you are not supposed to. Monday 5th December: Please remember Monday is an inset day and children are not in school. I hope your preparations are going well for Christmas as we approach the second Sunday of Advent. Yours sincerely,

Maria Conlon Deputy Head

The Christmas postbox is at the school office for posting cards to children in school. Please ensure you put the recipent’s name and class on the envelope.

Music: Guitars: Next Monday’s guitar lessons will take place on the Thursday. Mr. Seaman is also unable to attend on Monday of the following week so again the lessons will take place on the Thursday.

Photographs: School photograph orders have been sent home this week

On Wednesday 30th November, Chatterbox was relaunched. Mrs Montgomerie introduced The Chatterbox Group and gave a small presentation on Rights Respecting Schools. The parents were invited to join in a discussion on the Rights of the Child whilst they were enjoying a cup of coffee and biscuits. We also discussed how we can move forward as a school and relaunch RRS as a school and community initiative. We hope that more parents will be able to join us at the next meeting on Wednesday 1st February and enjoy some Rights Respecting activities. Over Christmas, why not discuss as a family, Article 28: Every child has the right to an education. Primary education must be free. Discipline in schools must respect children’s dignity. Richer countries must help poorer countries to achieve this. How can we respect this right and what does it look like in our school and community? Thank you so much for your continued support. Mrs Montgomerie Christmas School Lunch: Wednesday 21st December. Your lunch orders should be in by next Tuesday 6th December at the very latest. We need to know whether your child will be taking a school lunch (turkey or vegetarian) or will be bringing in a packed lunch. Please remember, if your child/ren would like to take the Christmas lunch you MUST have an active ‘Feeding Hungry Minds’ account with a credit balance. If you have not yet registered you need to do it now as it takes time to activate the account so that payment can be made. The minimum amount that can be credited to an account is £10.00. We regret that if you do not have an active account with a credit balance, the meal cannot be provided. Please note the meals are suitable for children with nut allergies. Breakfast and After School Clubs: Application forms for places in these clubs for the January/February half term have been emailed to parents. Applications need to be made by parents who either wish to rebook existing places or who wish their child’s name to remain on or to be added to any of the waiting lists. Although several of the clubs are full it is sometimes possible to meet requests for places on a one-off basis. The closing date for rebooking places for January/February is Wednesday 14th December. Places not rebooked by this date will be offered to families on the waiting lists. Further information about the clubs can be found in the leaflet rack near the school office or on the school’s website. Christmas Holiday Club: This will run for 4 days: Tuesday 3rd to Friday 6th January. The clubs are run by qualified and experienced staff and provide a variety of activities for the children. Charges are £25 per day (£20 for siblings), although half days can be booked. Booking forms have been emailed to parents and there are spare copies (with guidance notes) in the rack outside the school office. Places are being allocated on a first come first served basis. Early booking, by way of a completed form with payment, is advised. The closing date for applications is 14th December (bookings may be possible after this date but will incur a £5 late fee as staffing and materials have to be organised before this date). Letters confirming places have been sent home to all families who have so far booked.

---- CONGRATULATIONS ---Headteacher’s Awards: A big thank you to our English and Maths Governors, Siobhan Bailey and Sam Dickinson and Year 6 pupils Jason Odo, Grace Ruddy, Abby Bastiampillai, Michael Lloyd Joseph, Jemima Crook and Caolán McLaughlin who represented the school during the renewal of our commitment to High Standards in Maths and English. Set up and helping at the event: thank you to those who have already volunteered to help on Friday morning next week but we do need more help please!
