Welcome & Introductions: Steve Orff Steve Orff opened meeting, welcomed attendees and thanked everyone for coming.
Adoption of Minutes: Beth Cutler Steve clarified the minutes regarding summer tryouts as to the way teams may be chosen and didn’t want any confusion. The two proposals highlighted in the January minutes were proposals and no firm decisions had been made as to the team selection process. Motion with correction to adopt minutes by Beth Cutler, Keli Morford 2nd. Motion passed unanimously.
Treasurers report: Steve Orff 35 people attended coach’s clinic. It was noted that the $300 cost was well worth the investment. Equipment has been purchased and received. NYS spent over $2K on equipment this year. U12 teams will be going to CT this summer as we cancelled the PA tourney due to concerns over the location (not in PA) and whether the tourney will run or not. New dates for U12’s are 7/12 & 13 Motion to adopt Treasurers report by Dave Shepherd, Keli Morford 2nd. Motion passed unanimously.
Fundraising: Karen Pisani NYS received new sponsorships from Milford Federal, Murphy Insurance, Paws Bed & Biscuit, & Tinio Consulting. Karen has sent out 94 requests for donations and spoke with BM at Imperial to get involved with the Auto Show but Imperial may not host Auto Show this year. Karen has suggested a car wash with girls.
Karen also has put in a request to bring the Red Sox Championship Trophy to Opening Day as a possible fundraiser. There is no cost and the trophy would be here for 2 hours with security personnel and an official Red Sox ambassador. Discussion ensued about Opening Day Basket Raffles. Karen suggested this as a possible fundraiser and Christie Cote volunteered to be the coordinator. Karen is also going to contact Kohl’s for help with Field Maintenance Day as they have a community outreach program to help local non-profits.
New Business: Coaches Clinics: Ricky Adams 35 people attended coach’s clinics. We have received very positive feedback. Winter Clinics: Ricky Adams 1st night went very well. Feedback was mostly positive. It was noted that the “older girls” wanted to hit in the cage. Ricky noted that Dave Dixon was doing an outstanding job teaching them the mechanics of hitting and asked for patience. Dave is developing a hitting program, and instructing the players on how to hit, not just letting take swings in the cage. However, there will be an increased emphasis on “fun” activities in some of the rotations. Registrations: Steve Orff Need more coaches in AAA Division. Steve will send message out to parents. 133 players registered for spring softball as of today. 33 T-ball 32 Farm 32 AAA 35 Minors 2 Majors Steve noted that we will keep registration open for Majors who may decide later if they don’t make the Miscoe team. Steve also noted that we will be selling NYS merchandise at the clinics. Twin Valley: Steve Orff Meeting is going on concurrently. Beth Cutler is representing NYS at meeting. Equipment: Steve Orff
Equipment is stored in shed at Miscoe. Field Maintenance: Bill Casey The fields are currently covered in snow. As a result, there is no realistic way to get pricing on potential field improvements. Bill noted that we could make improvements between the spring and summer seasons instead of waiting until the Fall. Proposed date of Field Maintenance Day is April 12th. Summer U12 tryouts: Steve Orff Tryouts will be held indoors. NYS has booked Tuesdays in March in the Miscoe Upper gym. Players are required to attend at least one evaluation but are encouraged to attend as many as possible. We would like to select teams by the end of March so practice can begin. Steve will send a letter to prospective families detailing summer softball information including evaluation dates, team selection, expectations and scheduling. The evaluation process was discussed including how best to evaluate the players, the value of an evaluation and how to utilize the evaluation.
Umpiring: Mary Stanton Mary Stanton is the ASA umpire assigner for our area. The State ASA Commissioner has asked all assigners to meet with every league. Mary thanked us for using ASA umpires. She noted that ASA registrations come with insurance for umpires. She also noted that jewelry can be asked to be removed if the umpire deems it a safety issue. We were asked to submit our league rules to the main ASA office to be placed on the ASA website, www.horizonwebref.com She also asked for a 2 week lead time when requesting umpires for playoff games and to note that they are playoff games when requesting. Motion to adjourn at 9:43 by Ricky Adams, Bill Casey 2nd. Motion passed unanimously.
