P.S. 269 THE NOSTRAND SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
SEPTEMBER 2017
Dear Parents, I always look forward to the start of school. I enjoy the excitement shared by students and their families, and like having the chance to reconnect with everyone following the summer break. The first days of school have gone smoothly, and our students are already getting into routines, which are emphasized first. I am seeing new friendships form, and old friendships rekindled. I know it is difficult to walk into a new school for some of our new students. They are doing great, and beginning to understand what is expected here at P.S. 269. All of our students are connecting to their teachers and other adults too. My hope is that our students will feel that they are a part of our school and that the adults they come in contact with care about them and their success. School isn’t easy, and it’s not supposed to be, therefore, please let us know what questions you have any time they come up.

ATTENDANCE, ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL POLICIES Class Dojo
Students that arrive to school on time and have regular attendance have the best opportunity to learn.
ClassDojo is a new Teacher-Parent tool that will be used to help build your student’s classroom engagement. ClassDojo allows us to track students’ behavior and learning skills throughout the day. One of ClassDojo’s great features is that it allows us to send you a “behavior and skills report” every Friday by email. This program will help bring us together to help you better understand the progress of your child on a week to week basis. You can get the free ClassDojo app on your mobile device.
Absences - Please call the main office (718) 941-2800 to report an absence. If the school has not been informed of the absence(s), parents will receive a call from the school to verify the whereabouts of a student if they are absent for more than 2 days. P.S. 269 has an attendance policy and closely monitors student lateness and absences from school. Students who are late or whose absences are viewed as frequent will be contacted by school staff to communicate the concern. A conference may be necessary to ensure that the concern is addressed. Other actions may be required if no improvement is noted.
Arrivals: Breakfast is served to each child for free at (7:50 am in the main cafeteria). Children will wait with their classmates in the cafeteria or auditorium until the start time when they go to their classrooms at 8:20 am sharp. School begins at 8:20 AM sharp. All students should be inside and beginning the day with their classmates.
Please send a note to your child’s teacher requesting your “Parent Code” For access to class Dojo
Late: Any student arriving late should check in at the office before joining their class.
Dismissals: 3rd grade students dismiss at 2:35 PM, while 4th and 5th grade students are dismissed from school at 2:40 PM.
