Studio 87 - Decorative Stitches Quilt Saturday April 9th & Saturday, May 14th 12:00 – 3:30 pm (classroom available at 11:45 pm for set-up) Class Fee: $25.00 or 1 CC Instructor:Georgia Mate Supplies you will need:  

7 or 8 series sewing machine in good working order with power cord, foot control, slide on tray and a new needle. Be sure to bring your sewing machine instruction book Basic Sewing Supplies - Good quality fabric scissors - Small scissors or snips - Seam ripper - Straight pins - Chalk fabric marker - Extra machine needles - Pen & paper for notes - Anything else you commonly use for a day of sewing! Rotary cutter and mat. Ruler that is at least 6” x 24” Extra machine needles, size 80/12 universal. You will need to bring threads that coordinate with your fabric or contrast/complement depending on your personal taste. I used 12 different colors to get a large variety of design. For the second class you will need construction thread. Feet: for the first class you will need your #20D foot for all of the decorative stitching. For the second class: you will need your #37D, #57D, or your #97D for the construction of the blocks and the quilt. Fabric –  7/8 yard of dark for the decorative stitches  1 1/8 yards of the print that you will be using for blocks and borders.  1 ¼ - 1 ½ yards for backing if you wish to make separate binding you will need ½ yard extra for binding. Stabilizer –Ultra Clean ‘n’ Tear for the stabilizer. For some of the stitches you might need two layers. If you have long pieces of this stabilizer that are scrap,s you will want to bring them as we may be able to use them for this project. You will need approx 3 – 6 yards for this project Scissors for clipping threads



For the second class You will need a rotary cutter & ruler, preferably a 10 ½” square, and a mat, as you will be doing quite a bit of cutting

Before coming to class:



For first class: o Cut 2 – 10 ½” strips the width of the fabric of a solid (black) for the decorative stitches to go on. Please make sure that your threads will show up. For second class o Cut 4 strips 1 ¼ “ for inner border of dark o Cut 2 strips 10 ½” by width of fabric of the print fabric o Cut 4 strips 3 ½” by width of print fabric for the outer border o Backing will be discussed at the first class (you will need approx 1 ¼ - 1 ½ yards for the backing and ½ yard for the binding

Classes must be paid for at time of registration. One week cancellation notice required for refund or credit fees. It is important to have all your materials before class begins and to have your sewing machine set up and ready to sew. Our teachers make every effort to start on time. All brands of sewing machines and sergers are welcome. As a courtesy to others, please turn off cell phones during class. Loaner machines are available for $10.00 rental fee at time of registration. This class is for the specific project as described here. If you wish to make something different, it should be done outside of class.
