Summer Reading Program 2017 June 10-July 31

All ages. Gear up for the Summer Reading Program! Complete activities to earn prizes and entries in the Grand Prize Drawing. Even the youngest members can participate! Register at the Adult or Kids Desks at the Main Library and at the Prospect Heights Branch beginning June 10.

Summer Reading Program Kickoff * Saturday, June 10, 9 am-5 pm

The Great Frame Up: Decoration Station 10 am-2 pm All ages. Decorate a fun frame for your photo booth pictures in The Launch Pad. Bring your family and get creative together. While supplies last. Drop in.

DIY Kids 10 am-3 pm Birth-grade 8. Register for the Summer Reading Program and make cool crafts. While supplies last. Drop in. Sing, Sing a Song With Laura Doherty 11 am-12 pm Most appropriate for children ages 2-8 with a caregiver. Dance and clap along to Chicago favorite Laura Doherty’s original, catchy tunes from her award-winning CDs. Limit: 180. TR

Summer Reading Finale Saturday, July 29

Drop-in Discovery 10 am-2 pm Ages 3-grade 8. Challenge your creativity with handson activities and experiments, including cookie decorating with Mariano's Fresh Market. While supplies last. NR *All Kickoff programs will be held at the Main Library.

Mr. Freeze Cryogenics Show 1-2 pm Grades K-8. Your summer is about to get super cool! Mr. Freeze uses liquid nitrogen to create spectacular and surprising effects. Learn interesting physics facts and find out how cryogenics is used at Fermilab. Limit: 80. TR

Photo Booth 10 am-2 pm All ages. Register for the Summer Reading Program and get your picture taken with fun props in Chicagoland PBR’s photo booth. Drop in.

Krafty Kids Wednesdays: June 7 & July 5, 1-2 pm Grades 1-5. Explore your artistic side by making a seasonal craft using a variety of supplies and techniques. R DIY STEAM Science Wednesday, June 14, 1-3 pm Grades 1-5. Explore what it takes to be your own scientist with these fun DIY projects. Kid chemists can make their own flubber and take it home. Budding engineers will be able to try their hands at building challenges using craft sticks and other everyday objects. Artists can make homemade crystals that will grow overnight. R Wonderworks: Family Maker Night Thursday, June 22, 4:30-5:30 pm or 6-7 pm Ages 3 and older with a caregiver. Make something awesome! Families can explore The Launch Pad with activity stations at this bi-monthly program. All materials provided. These sessions are duplicates; please attend one session only. Limit: 16. TR

Medieval Madness Tuesday, July 11, 1-2 pm Grades 3-5. Think you could survive the Middle Ages? Join other questers for medieval crafts, games and snacks. Limit: 20. TR Super STEAM! Wednesday, July 19, 10-11 am Ages 3-6 with a caregiver. Children will learn beginning STEAM principles of science, technology, engineering, art and math, as well as enhance their motor skills through each activity. Sensory elements are incorporated to engage a child’s sense of touch and sight. Limit: 20. TR Family LEGO Club Thursday, July 27, 6-7:30 pm Ages 3 and older with a caregiver. Not all learning comes from books! Get hands-on at our Family Lego Club, and explore the creativity and excitement of building together. We'll have Duplo and regular-sized Legos. Limit: 50. TR

LEGO Club Thursday, June 29, 6-7:30 pm Grades K-5. Bring your imagination and create something unique with Legos. Limit: 30. TR Create an Edible Garden Friday, June 30, 10:30-11:30 am Grades K-5. Let’s play outside in the dirt and plant an edible herb garden in a pot. Take your garden home and get creative in the kitchen! R A Camping We Will Go! Thursday, July 6, 11 am-12 pm Grades 1-3. We’ll set up our campsite and enjoy songs, a snack and books. We will also make a special craft to take home! Limit: 25. TR

Harry Potter Party: Fantastic Beasts Edition Monday, July 31, 1-4 pm Grades 4-12. Celebrate Harry Potter's birthday in style. We’ll watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (rated PG-13) and enjoy food and fun! Costumes are encouraged but not required. R Bookworms Book Club Monday, August 7, 4-5 pm Grades 4 & 5. We’ll discuss a great book, enjoy a snack, make a craft and play a game. Register at the Kids Desk July 7-28 and pick up your free book to keep. R
