UTPA Athletics is embarking on an unprecedented phase of rapid growth and advancement. One of the most critical needs for the UTPA Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is support for the renovation and construction of first-class athletic facilities. For recruiting purposes it is essential that our facilities exceed the expectations of prospective student-athletes and compare favorably to other institutions in the WAC and the nation. Maintaining facilities and strategically planning for the future is an ongoing process. Current major gift opportunities are available in facility campaigns, program enhancements, recruiting funds, scholarship endowments and academic support service programs. Supporting these initiatives will provide the resources necessary to ensure that all of UTPA’s programs will remain competitive in WAC and on a national level. Whether you have personally benefited from Bronc athletics and want to commemorate your time at the University, or are simply a friend of the University who wants to contribute, the commitment you make will enhance the overall University experience for student-athletes and the UTPA community for many years to come. Funds generated from this project will go specifically into the facility project budget of whichever of the athletic programs the donor designates.
Located on the southeast side of campus, the Orville Cox Tennis Center is the current home of the UTPA men’s and women’s tennis teams. Built in 1958, the Orville Cox Tennis Center received a $225,000 complete renovation in the summer of 2012, including the resurfacing of the court, common and bleacher areas, new fencing, new Broncs graphic windscreens, a new entrance and new restroom and storage facilities. The Orville Cox Tennis Center has six tennis courts available and a main bleacher capacity of 300. To ensure the future success of UTPA’s historic tennis program, the University will unveil plans for a new tennis complex, envisioned as a preeminent, top-tier facility to be located with frontal access to University Drive at the corner of Jackson Road, directly south of the new soccer and track & field complex. The new complex will provide at least 12 outdoor courts to serve as a training center for student-athletes and coaches, ensuring that UTPA tennis student-athletes can train
year-round on campus. In addition, patron accommodations will optimize comfort and viewing and include special guest amenities and a club area, providing an enhanced spectator experience. Features: • Outdoor tennis stadium with at least 12 courts • Permanent spectator seating that can be expanded to accommodate conference, national and professional tournaments • Training facility that includes team locker rooms, training and fitness rooms, meeting rooms and offices for coaches and staff UTPA Athletics is currently seeking funding for this exciting new facility that will constitute a world-class venue for UTPA tennis for years to come. Future construction costs depend entirely on private donations. Naming opportunities listed below are available for donors wishing to support this important next step for UTPA tennis.
