THE BIG PICTURE OF BONSAI

HOW HORTICULTURE, ART, DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE ALL BECAME ONE February 28 6–7 p.m. Bldg. 7, ATL Conference Room

Hosted by the Cal Poly Horticulture and Plant Science Clubs

Ryan Neil’s career in bonsai began long before he made the commitment to a life with little trees. Born and raised in Colorado, Neil spent his youth amidst the fantastic array of tortured and stunted trees that give the Rocky Mountains its splendid character. It wasn’t until Neil was in high school when he found bonsai, but his passion for the art grew and led him to California. It was there he obtained an education in horticulture at Cal Poly and met Ben Oki, who proved to be the catalyst for organizing Neil’s apprenticeship with world renowned bonsai master Masahiko Kimura. After completing a six-year apprenticeship in Japan, Neil is revolutionizing American Bonsai.
