Come and Worship! We celebrate with worship on Sunday worship at 9 a.m.. And Mondays at 6 p.m. OFFICE HOURS: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Greetings Everyone, Already we have arrived into the month of June and with it a decision on whom our new Synodical Bishop will be. The new Bishop for our Synod is Katherine Finegan (see related article elsewhere in the newsletter). More information on the new bishop can be found in the newsletter. June is also a time where we all start to get into our summer routines with kids being out of school and people starting their vacations. Overall it will be a wonderful time in which we will be able to be outside and truly enjoy all of God’s creation. Speaking about God’s creation I am always impressed with how vast and complex it can be. If there is one thing in the Upper Peninsula in which people are able to enjoy and appreciate is God’s creation within nature. Our surrounding environment is filled with beautiful trees, lushes waters, and awe inspiring landscape. All of these aspects of nature are a reminder of how we are a small peace to what God creates. Now to point even further I feel to how small of a part that we are to God’s creation is the Greek word κόσμος. When this word is found, specifically in the New Testament, it is translated as world. For myself I don’t feel that translation truly gives the word it’s just meaning. When people hear God created the world they primarily think of just planet earth. However, the word κόσμος which is similar to the English word cosmos means more than just planet earth but the whole universe and beyond. Such a word then when applied to God’s creation suggest not only did God create humanity along with all that inhabits planet earth but also that of the entire universe and beyond. Now if that does not make us feel small than I don’t know what else would. Though, despite how small or insignificant humanity could be to the expansive nature of what God has created we are still loved and cared for by God just as much as everything else in the universe. As we start to enjoy the outdoors this summer, I encourage everyone then to be reminded the vast nature of what God has created but also that God still love us. May God bless us all in our time both in our homes and in the outdoors. Sincerely, Pastor John Ansell
