THE CONNECTION SEPTEMBER 2017 Dear Church Family, Sunday, September 17th, is our first ever “Back to Church Sunday.” Summer is winding down, Fall is moving closer, the kids are back in school, football season is here, and we are kicking off our Fall season with a special Back to Church Sunday service. After a time away, such as many have had this summer, it is good to come back together and remember who we are in Christ and what we believe. We are united under the Gospel of Jesus Christ as one body. We have common beliefs, purposes and goals, and spending time together in the Bible strengthens our bonds, draws us closer together and helps each of us sharpen our faith “…as iron sharpens iron” (Proverbs 27:17). Our fellowship as believers is never intended to be exclusive — indeed, we welcome all who wish to join us. We encourage you to invite your friends, neighbors and family members this and each Sunday as we explore what it means to be a part of God’s church and why we feel that it is so important. In Acts 4:32 we are reminded that “all of the believers were one in heart and mind.” This does not mean that they followed blindly along, but rather that they understood who Jesus was. They understood the sacrificial price Jesus paid for them through His death on the cross and experienced the joy of His resurrected life through salvation. At UBC, we are united together in our Lord’s purpose to connect real people to real life in Christ. As we come back together this Fall, it is our fervent prayer that we will be of “one mind and heart in the Lord.” Let us seek to reengage in His church and remind ourselves of the hope that we have in Christ. What a privilege we have to worship our Lord freely each Sunday, a tremendous benefit which is denied, so many persecuted and suffering Christians around the world today. Jesus is worthy,
David

Dear Family, As the end of August comes to be past history… has what you’ve done these last couple of months made a difference? Merge camp has helped the Youth learn how to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Taught us to not only hear the word of God, but also be doers of His word. If you have a minute right now, would you read Matthew 7:24-27? I watched these young men and ladies sweat for Jesus. They tore off shingles, felt paper, and pulled nails for hours! They replaced the felt and shingled the entire house in two days! The Leaders of Merge asked if they would like to help another family and build a 27 foot handicap ramp. They said yes!! (They gave up their free time to do this!) I am So Proud of them and their Love for Jesus and Others! On July 21st the youth and several adult volunteers put together a community BBQ! Thank you!!! The Youth Praise Band sang the whole evening. The volunteers made approximately 170 plates! The servers served about 130 of those plates in the sanctuary! It was a blast! In August, school started back, now we have FCA, Football, Volleyball, cheering, and marching band. Please keep our Students in your Prayers! I am looking forward to the Sunflower Festival, September 16th. Our Youth will have a hotdog booth out there! If you have a chance drop by! Thank you for your continued Prayers, Joe Johnson

Elaine not only faithfully serves in our Children’s Ministry, but goes above and beyond in helping with any need she sees! She is often at the church on the weekend decorating and placing flowers to help the church look beautiful. She loves our sweet children, willingly steps in whenever she’s needed, showing the love of Jesus in everything she does! Elaine, thank you for serving and investing in the next generation, and for having a servant’s heart! We love you and appreciate you!! God bless you & your family!
Thank you for all the cards & prayers & kindness to Mama throughout her years in the nursing home. Also, you will never know how much we appreciate the wonderful lunch that was served to our family after the funeral. Please keep us in your prayers. The Family of Margaret Crowe
