Go Speak! News

We were able to meet with our Canon Caimano in May in order to write up a job description for the part time priest we wish to call to St. David’s. We have several limiting factors that determine what we can advertise for. The biggest factor is money. So, we are looking at a part time priest. As our finances grow, we could add more time to this person’s job description, if that is agreeable with both sides. We have decided that Sunday morning worship and sermon preparation time would have the biggest chunk of his/her time. We also wanted to be sure there was time for emergency care, and some pastoral care. When we look at the candidates, we shall discuss several options, depending on their needs and their other jobs. You can go to the NC Episcopal Diocesan website to check out the job posting. Please do not panic that we are advertising for a quarter time priest, the Vestry thought it best to start a conversation (through the job posting) and then see where that leads.

Seven brave souls met in the parish hall to listen and share stories. We each responded to a question on the card with a story for 3-5 minutes. No comments or questions were allowed by the listeners. We then sat quietly with the story for several minutes before the next card was drawn and story given. It was not as scary at it had appeared. We enjoyed the story each person presented and learned a little about listening in silence. We have questions left over, maybe we should try this in our Adult discussion group in the future.

Here is a prayer adapted from the Book of Common Prayer for our Search for a Priest.

“Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favor, and further us with your continual help in our search for a priest for St.David’s; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy Name, and finally, by Thy mercy, obtain priestly direction for St.David’s; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” Carolyn Beranek Senior Warden

can bring your swimsuit and towel and swim or just join us for good food. Our theme is “Farmer’s Market”.

We had a small group of walkers for peace, but a beautiful day to do it. We had candles, and incense and prayers. We looked at our neighborhood from our “peninsula” and noticed how the point juts out into the streets on either side. We celebrated with chocolate. Maybe it will happen again next year?

Sunday Morning Discussion Group

Contributions for The Cornerstone

The “before church” discussion group, aka Adult Christian Ed will have a hiatus for the summer. We will have our last group meeting on June 8 and then start back up again in September. BUT, there is no reason why interested folks can’t come to the Parish Hall early and make a pot of coffee and chat, discuss and fellowship before church starts on Sunday morning.

The Cornerstone deadline is the 19 th of each month. All articles are invited. Please email articles to [email protected]. The Cornerstone editor is Bonnie Glenn.
