Kiwanis Club of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, Inc. Meets Tuesday, 6:30, Donauschwaben German Center, 7370 Columbia Road

D. Craig Barbee, Editor November 24, 2015

NEXT WEEK for Thanksgiving week our speaker will be Rev. Charles Eduardos, pastor of All Saints Lutheran Church. He will bring us a seasonal message. In addition to being a pastor, he is a certified hypnotherapist, motivational speaker, life coach, and author. LAST WEEK our speaker was Olmsted Falls Mayor Ann Marie Donegan. She gave us a summary of what has been going on in the Falls in the past year since she last spoke to the club. One of the things she mentioned is that the new senior center in the city hall building will open up on December 6. She also told us about some upcoming road construction that will disrupt traffic flow in the community. Two of the most significant projects are the replacement of the Bagley Road bridge over Plum Creek and replacement of the Ohio Turnpike bridge on Columbia Road. In both case the roads will be completely closed during construction; originally, these were scheduled to be ongoing at the same time, but now the plan is for summer 2016 for the first and 2017 for the second. Her son accompanied here to the meeting, bringing our total attendance to 34. The 50/50 prize winner was BOB GROVE, who collected $24. GET WELL WISHES to MIKE DEL PIZZO, who is still feeling some pain from his incident last week when he apparently tore a chest muscle and may have cracked a rib.

THE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING DINNER has enough volunteers signed up, but can always use an extra person here or there. Available times to work include Wednesday night beforehand doing some readiness work and several shifts on Thanksgiving Day: 5-8 AM, 1012-12-2, 2-4, and 4-6 for cleanup. RON FAZULAK has the signup. Also, if any member would like to make a cash donation, either as an individual or through your place of business, those contributions will be welcomed.

Olmsted Falls Mayor Ann Marie Donegan enumerates some of the things that have been accomplished during her administration.

OLMSTED FALLS CERTS is selling tickets to a Cleveland Cavaliers game. Tickets are $50 each for the game on February 10 against the Lakers. Included in that price are tickets to a Monsters hockey game. Contact BOB GROVE.

REMEMBER to mark the date of December 15 on your social calendar for our annual Christmas party, which will be held at The Renaissance. An exact price and menu have not been established yet, but figure on approximately $25 per person. KRIS CORRELL has started the signup sheet.

TWO COMMITTEES are planning to meet next Tuesday following the regular meeting. One is Boys & Girls and the other is Finance.

THE NORTH RIDGEVILLE CLUB is selling nuts for the holiday season. Place your orders through LEE FENRICH. That club will also be sponsoring the annual pancake breakfast with Santa that we usually help out with. The date for that event is Saturday, December 5.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow.” Edward Sandford Martin

ANOTHER EVENT on December 5 will be the annual Olmsted Falls Forensics Tournament that we sponsor and serve food at. There will be three working shifts: 8:30-10:30, 10:30-12:30, and 12:30-2:30. CHRIS PARKER is in charge of the signup; there are still a couple of slots open for the middle shift. K-KIDS AND BUILDERS CLUB from St. Mary of the Falls will meet next Tuesday at 2:30.
