CAMPBELL COMPANY OF CANADA TORONTO PLANT - TOXICS REDUCTION PLAN FOR NITRIC ACID (CAS 7697-37-2) December 18, 2013
INTRODUCTION This Toxics Reduction Plan was prepared to meet the requirements of the Ontario Toxic Reduction Act (2009) (TRA) and Ontario Regulation 455/09 for Campbell Company of Canada facility located at 60 Birmingham Street, in Toronto, Ontario. The subject toxic substance is nitric acid (CAS 7697-37-2), which belongs to NPRI Part 1 and TRA Phase II substance. It is used in the facility as a component of cleaners that are used to clean food products manufacturing equipment. It is not created onsite nor contained in the final products. The act and the regulation require regulated facilities to undertake toxic substance accounting to better understand the quantities of toxic substances that are used, created, transformed, destroyed, released, disposed of, and contained in product. For each substance, regulated facilities must develop a plan that examines how the amount of the substance used or created at the facility could be reduced or eliminated by implementing technically and economically feasible toxic substance reduction options. In addition to the subject substance, Campbell Company of Canada has also prepared a Toxics Reduction Plan for another applicable Phase II toxic substance (particulate matter with diameter less than 2.5 micron – PM2.5).
