MATCH THIRTEEN: UIC FLAMES (4-8) vs. Milwaukee (3-8) Saturday, Sept. 19 - 4 p.m. CST Flames Athletic Center (Chicago, IL) HOME SWEET HOME: UIC’s matchup with Milwaukee will be its fifth consecutive on the floor at the Flames Athletic Center. The Flames are currently an even 2-2 at the FAC, having won their first pair at home and losing their last two. OPENING IN THE LEAGUE: The Flames meeting with the Panthers will be the first Horizon League contest of the year for UIC. The conference preseason poll sat the Flames in seventh place out of the nine teams in the Horizon League. In 2008, UIC finished seventh in the league with a conference record of 5-11. Milwaukee opened its 2009 Horizon League slate with a Friday night across town at Loyola. LAST TIME OUT: In its last match, UIC fell 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-17) to Central Michigan Tuesday evening. The Chippewas used a lethal combination of 13 service aces and 42 kills in the three-set match to down the Flames, who posted a season-low 27 kills and just 25 assists on the night. THE PANTHERS: Milwaukee makes its visit to the Flames Athletic Center after opening its Horizon League slate at Loyola last night. The Panthers are 3-8 thus far on the season, and are led by Jenna Burg on the offense. Burg is in the top ten in the Horizon League for kills per set with a 3.07 average. She has 132 total kills on the year coming into the Panthers’ match at UIC. ALL-TOURNAMENT SULLIVAN: Junior outside hitter Casie Sullivan was named to the UIC Invitational’s All-Tournament team following her 46-kill performance on the weekend. Sullivan averaged 4.18 kills per set to lead UIC to a 2-1 record at the tournament, and also posted 5.0 blocks during the three matches. Sullivan currently leads the Flames with 143 kills thus far in 2009. RECORD BLOCKING: Senior Lana Lobdell is running away with the UIC team leads for blocks. Lobdell currently tops the list with 41.0 total blocks (3 BS, 38 BA). For her career, Lobdell is currently in a tie for fifth place in the UIC record books for block assists with 272. She is tied with Teaha Shepperd (2000-03), and her next target is Lynn Clarkson (19982001), who posted 283 block assists during her career.

FIRST YEAR LEADER: UIC head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley is in her first year at the helm of the Flames’ volleyball squad. Schumacher-Cawley earned her first win at the head of the Flames with a 3-2 decision against Western Illinois at the NIU Invitational Aug. 28. She earned her first win on the Flames Athletic Center floor this past weekend with a 3-0 sweep of Georgia State Sept. 11. A highly-decorated Chicago Southside athlete, SchumacherCawley stepped up into the head job after six seasons as an assistant on the UIC staff. Her staff includes second-year assistant Sara Hughes, first-year assistant Ellen Hayes and volunteer assistant Dan Buerhing. IN THEIR LEAGUE: Casie Sullivan, Jessica Dalke and Lana Lobdell currently both find themselves ranked in the top ten of a few Horizon League statistical categories. Sullivan’s 3.18 kills per set average is good for fourth in the circuit. Dalke’s 456 assists and 10.13 assists per set average are good to put her in third place in the league, while she is also fifth in the circuit with a service aces per set average of 0.31. Dalke leads the Flames with 14 aces on the year. Lobdell owns a .304 hitting percentage, good for fourth, while she also takes a spot on the blocks listing with 0.91 per set, good for ninth. DALKE DISHES DOUBLE-DOUBLES: Junior Jessica Dalke leads the team in double-doubles this season with six, pairing her setting expertise (she leads UIC with 456 assists) with some defense (her 112 digs also top the Flames).
