UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES ATHLETICS COMPLIANCE OFFICE NONCHAMPIONSHIP REGULATIONS Championship & Nonchampionship Segments (In-season) 20 hours per week  1 required day off  No more than 4 hours per day

Outside the Playing Season (Out-of-season) 8 hours per week  2 required days off  No more than 2 hours per week of skill instruction  No workouts on university holidays, the week before finals, during finals week, and during official vacation periods

Competition: Nonchampionship Segment Contests & Dates of Competition    

Soccer (5 Dates of Competition) Softball (8 contests, with no more than 3 contests on a single calendar day) Volleyball (4 Dates of Competition) All other sports must count all contests and/or dates of competition towards the total limit imposed for the academic year

General Restrictions 



No missed class in conjunction with competition during the nonchampionship segment o Applies to:  Baseball  Cross Country  Soccer  Softball  Volleyball o Includes activities associated with such competition (e.g., travel and other pregame or postgame activities) o Exception: once every 4 years, a student-athlete may miss class in conjunction with travel to a nonchampionship segment competition against an active member institution located in Hawaii or Alaska Restricted to ground transportation for competitions in the nonchampionship segment, unless using the exception above to travel to Hawaii or Alaska o Applies to:  Soccer  Softball  Volleyball

Student-Athlete Athletics Eligibility Implications 

Any student-athlete participating in competition during the academic year uses a season of competition. An exception exists to permit student-athletes in the following sports to compete in the nonchampionship segment without using a season of competition (provided the student-athlete was academically eligible during the championship segment. o Soccer o Women’s Volleyball o Men’s Water Polo
