The Quilting Treasures Quilts of Valor Challenge features the “Homefront Girl – Love My Hero” fabric collection. $1,050 in cash will be awarded, sponsored by Quilting Treasures. 1. The challenge is open to individuals or a group up to 3. Print this form to request a kit and send it, with a check payable to UQSM in the amount of $20 to the address below. The kit includes fabric (seven 1/2-yd. pieces), and quilt label. Kits will be distributed on a first-come first-served basis beginning November 15, 2016. 2. A recognizable amount of each of the seven (7) challenge fabrics must be used in the quilt top, at the discretion of the entrant. Up to four (4) other fabrics may be added. Groups must provide the backing fabric; however; leftover fabric from the top may be used. Use 80/20 Cotton/Poly batting. 2” x 2” swatches of each added fabric must be attached to the finalized entry form upon quilt submission. Do not include fabrics from the provided kit.
3. The quilt must measure from 55” x 65” (minimum) to 72” x 90” maximum). 4. The quilt must be machine quilted. This includes long-arm, short-arm or domestic machines. The quilt may be quilted with thread(s) of choice.

9. A quilt name, quilt size and quilt description must be sent with the finished challenge quilt on the provided form. 10. All challenge quilts will be donated to the Quilts of Valor Foundation.
5. The quilt must have the included sewn-on fabric label on the back of the quilt at either bottom corner and must include the following information: a. “Quilts of Valor Challenge 2017” b. Blank line for recipient’s name. c. The name of the piecer & quilter. 6. Make a temporary label to be pinned on to the back of the quilt that states: a. “UQSM 2017 Quilting Treasures Quilts of Valor Challenge.” b. The name of the quilt bee or group, if applicable. c. The name(s) of the individual piecer(s) machine quilter and any other participant. 7. The quilt must have a binding. 8. The quilt must have a 4” hanging sleeve made from challenge or backing fabric or muslin. It must be sewn to the top edge of the quilt back to allow the quilt to be easily hung by a traditional pole.
11. The quilts will be judged and awarded cash for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and honorable mention prizes based on overall appearance, skill, fabric usage and machine quilting. Ribbons will be awarded at the award ceremony Thursday, May 4th, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. One award ribbon only will be presented to each winning quilt. A participation ribbon will be given to each participant. Cash awards will be mailed after the show closes. 12.
