Game Notes OPENING FACE-OFF The 10th-ranked Bullets face off with a nationallyranked opponent for the third game in a row as they take on the eighth-ranked York College Spartans in a non-conference outing and a rematch of last year’s NCAA Division III quarterfinals. ALL-TIME SERIES Gettysburg holds a 2-1 lead over York in the all-time series that started in 2015. After the Bullets won the inaugural meeting two years ago the two sides split a pair of games last season. LAST TIME OUT Stevenson outscored Gettysburg 8-4 in the second half and the 11th-ranked Mustangs handed the Bullets an 11-6 setback here at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium this past Saturday. It was a defensive battle through three quarters, with Stevenson leading the Bullets 6-3 heading into the final stanza. Gettysburg made it a two-goal game when sophomore Tommy Heller scored with 14:01 remaining, but the Mustangs used a 5-1 run to pull away. Heller and sophomore Blake Gray finished with two goals and one assist apiece for the Bullets while senior Sean Fumai also scored twice. Junior goalie Tim Brady registered 13 saves while sophomore long-stick midfielder Chris Verdeur posted five ground balls and two caused turnovers. LAST SEASON VS. YORK Gettysburg dropped a 9-7 decision at York in the first meeting, but scored a 7-6 overtime victory in the NCAA quarterfinals back at York. In the first game, the Bullets led 5-4 at halftime but were held to a pair of tallies in the second half. Gettysburg goalie Tim Brady and York keeper Caleb Abney each made 15 saves. In the second match-up, Mike Distler ’16 scored 36 seconds into overtime as the Bullets held off a Spartan rally to reach the NCAA semifinals for the second year in a row. Gettysburg led 6-4 midway through the fourth quarter, but York came back with a pair of late goals, including a tally from Brendan McGrath with 1:46 on the clock that forced the extra session. However, Gettysburg won the opening face-off and called timeout before Distler sent home a diving shot for the game-winner. Distler finished with two goals and two assists, long-stick midfielder Chris Palladino registered four ground balls and four

caused turnovers, and Jake Adoni ’16 made eight saves to lead the Bullets. McGrath finished with two goals and one assist while Abney made eight saves for the Spartans. TICKLING THE TWINE Several Bullets have enjoyed strong offensive starts this season, including senior Sean Fumai, who ranks third in the Centennial Conference with 13 goals. In addition, sophomore Blake Gray leads the conference in shot percentage (66.7%) and is tied for eighth in goals (eight) while classmate Jack Harvey is tied for seventh in assists (five). GETTING DEFENSIVE Gettysburg has also had a number of standouts on the defensive side of the field, including sophomore longstick midfielder Chris Verdeur, who is tied for third in the conference in caused turnovers (seven) and tied for seventh in ground balls (15). Junior defenseman Cullen Minion is tied for seventh in caused turnovers (six) while classmate Tim Brady is third in saves (39). SCOUTING THE SPARTANS  After a 4-0 start, the Spartans suffered their first loss of the season with a 9-8 double-overtime setback versus Lynchburg this past Saturday in York. The hosts led 8-6 with 6:26 remaining, only to see the Hornets rally down the stretch before scoring the game-winner with 1:04 left in the second OT. Four different Spartans scored two goals while junior Landry Marshall made 17 saves.  Sophomore Brendan McGrath has led York offensively with 19 goals while classmate Thomas Pfeiffer has contributed 12 goals and 10 assists. Between the pipes, Marshall has been the goalie of record in every game, posting a 6.55 goals-against average and a 55.7 save percentage.
