Dear Parents and Carers Following our recent Ofsted inspection the official report has now been published and I am pleased to be able to share it with you. I am delighted to say that we have been graded as OUTSTANDING in all areas that were inspected:- Effectiveness of Leadership and Management; Quality of Teaching and Learning; Personal development, behaviour and welfare; Outcomes for pupils; Early years provision. The HMI who led the inspection and the three additional inspectors on the second day said some very positive things about the school and I would like to share some of the highlights with you: • • • • • • • • •

Children love learning at Hiltingbury Infant School. ‘Learning at Hiltingbury is fun!’ The school’s motto, ‘Learn, care and achieve together’ is at the heart of leaders’ vision and work. The headteacher and deputy headteacher work well together, leaving no stone unturned in their quest for excellence. Standards are high. Pupils achieve very well in reading, writing and mathematics. Teachers plan engaging and highly effective activities. All staff show tremendous commitment to being the best they can be and are tenacious in seeking excellence. As a result, the quality of teaching is outstanding. The school develops pupils’ social, moral, spiritual and cultural development superbly. Pupils are thoughtful, kind and respectful. Pupils behave very well. They love school and ‘learning well’ is at the top of most pupils’ lists of their favourite things. Pupils conduct themselves well, acting as positive role models and ambassadors of the school. Pupils are courteous and polite. They play well together and encourage each other, including those in Reception classes. The vast majority of parents would recommend the school. They say their children are happy, safe and enjoy learning. One parent commented, ‘All staff including the headteacher, teachers and teaching assistants know my child well.’ The school environment, including displays of pupils’ work is top notch. The school is a hub of activity. Every space is well organised and purposeful.

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Record keeping is highly organised and up to date. This is a cohesive school community, where there are high levels of respect for each other from the word go.
These are just some of the many positive comments included. I have sent you a copy of the full report on parent mail for you to have a chance to read the details. Please do contact me if you have any questions. I will be sharing some parts of this report with the children tomorrow. I am delighted with the outcome and feel that this rigorous two day inspection recognises all that we do in the school. The children were very happy to talk to the inspectors with confidence about their learning. As always, as well as very positive learning behaviours they demonstrated their care, kindness and consideration to others. I would like to thank the staff who worked incredibly hard during the inspection to ensure that our commitment to doing the very best every day to achieve the best possible outcomes for our children was clear to see. We are very ably supported by our committed Governing Body to achieve this and thank them for the important role they play. I would also like to thank you for your continued support and engagement with the school. You must feel immensely proud of your children, they were a credit to you. Although we are now rated as outstanding we will continue as always to strive for excellence and I am very excited about the journey we, children, staff, parents and governors, are all on.
Yours sincerely
Cathy Moden
