Week 2 Series: The Kingdom Church Sermon Title: The Model of PassionateCompassionate Witness Sermon Text: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-16 Study Handout Date: The Week of 04-23-17 Group Date: The Week of 04-30-17 Sermon Date: 05-07-17 BEFORE WE BEGIN TODAY’S LESSON, what was your takeaway from this past Sunday’s sermon? ATTRIBUTE: Truth – Truth means that the facts conform to reality; truth identifies things as they are. Properly defined in relation to God, truth is “that perfection of His being by virtue of which He fully answers to the idea of the Godhead, is perfectly reliable in His revelation, and sees things as they really are.” First, it means He is the true God in distinction to all others; there is none like Him (Isaiah 44:8-10; 45:5). Second, He is the truth in that His Word and His revelation are reliable (Numbers 23:19; Romans 3:3-4; John 14:1, 2, 6; Hebrews 6:18; Titus 1:2). He can be trusted. Third, He knows things as they are; He is the beginning of all knowledge and makes it available to man in order that man may have fellowship with Him. He is the truth in a comprehensive sense. “He is the source of all truth, not only in the sphere of morals and religion, but also in every field of scientific endeavor.” (The Moody Handbook of Theology, p. 192). DOCTRINE: Word of God – Encompassing the Old Testament meaning of what God speaks, especially through prophetic spokespersons, the Christian meaning refers first to God’s self-revelation in Jesus Christ as the Word (e.g., John 1:1). It also refers to the proclamation of the Gospel of Christ and by extension to the Scriptures that testify to the truth of Christ. (Pocket Dictionary of Theological Terms, p. 121). DAY 1 -
