What to do... 1. Cut out the paper numbers on the additional sheet. 2. Fold each one in four, and place the folded papers in a bowl or mug.

Even or odd

multiplications!

3. Play this game: • Shake the mug and take one piece of paper each. • Open these to reveal your number.

This activity provides useful tables practise. However, it also encourages children to think about the patterns in the multiplication tables. Why are so many answers 5. .Y even? 8 0

• Repeat the activity. However, you each MUST write a calculation each time that has not been written before. (4 x 8 = 32 is the same as 8 x 4 = 32). • When you have written twelve multiplications each, count up the number of even answers. Can you explain why there are so many?

• Take turns to spin a coin. If it lands ‘heads’ then multiply your paper number by an even number, writing the calculation, e.g. 7 x 4 = 28. If it lands ‘tails’ then multiply your paper number by an odd number, writing the calculation, e.g. 7 x 3 = 21.

I've got my favourite number 7! The coin landed on tails so I am going to multiply 7 by 5.
